<strong>Hersey</strong>’s Choir<br />

Fine Arts<br />

We are proud to announce that the <strong>Hersey</strong> Choir had<br />

6 students who were selected to the IMEA District<br />

VII Choir. These students auditioned with over 650<br />

other students, representing over 65 high schools in<br />

the NW suburban area.<br />

Chosen for the vocal jazz groups:<br />

Camille Carso participated in the National Assoc.<br />

of Teachers of Singing IL District Competition.<br />

Over 200 students participated and in her first<br />

competition she made semi-finals in the musical<br />

theater freshmen/sophomore division.<br />

<strong>Hersey</strong>’s Orchestra<br />

HERSEY SETS ANOTHER RECORD IN THE<br />

MUSIC DEPARTMENT! <strong>Hersey</strong> had more<br />

students chosen than any other school in the<br />

history of the IMEA.<br />

Congratulations to Roya Zandi, Tiffany Chung,<br />

Nicholas Huene and Kyle Chung who were<br />

selected to the Violin section in the IMEA District<br />

VII Orchestra.<br />

<strong>John</strong> <strong>Hersey</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> senior tuba player,<br />

Serena Voltz, was selected as the 1st place winner of<br />

this year’s Concerto/Aria Competition. Voltz will<br />

perform Edward Gregson’s Tuba Concerto, Movt.<br />

1 with the Honors Orchestra at the District 214<br />

Honors Music Festival this coming March.<br />

Voltz was selected from six exceptional<br />

musicians at the concerto/aria recital. Second place<br />

went to <strong>Hersey</strong> senior violin player, Roya Zandi.<br />

<strong>Hersey</strong>’s Band<br />

Illinois Music Education Association District<br />

VII Record!<br />

More than 630 students from 65 schools in<br />

northeastern Illinois auditioned for 150 spots on<br />

October 10 at Zion-Benton <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong>. <strong>Hersey</strong><br />

auditioned the maximum number of students<br />

allowed: 18 for concert band and 12 students for<br />

jazz band. Out of all of the students that auditioned,<br />

<strong>Hersey</strong> placed ALL of the 12 jazz students that<br />

auditioned into a District Jazz Band and 16 of the<br />

18 students that auditioned for the Concert Band/<br />

Orchestra Winds/Percussion, for a total of 28 band<br />

placements in the IMEA District VII Ensembles.<br />

Forty-Four <strong>Hersey</strong> band students pre-auditioned<br />

to determine which 30 students would audition for<br />

the IMEA ensembles.<br />

The District VII wind and percussion students and<br />

jazz students will perform in a concert in Nov. 10.<br />

<strong>Hersey</strong>’s District VII rep’s this year: Jazz Bands(12<br />

out of 12 students auditioning):<br />

Angela Kucharski, Paul Kim, Jeremy Fuller,<br />

Grace Cusick, Monika Mroz, Mary Casagrande,<br />

Justin Kamp, Josh Popovici, Kevin Kapinos,<br />

Jake Imlach, Serena Voltz, Andy Jones<br />

Congratulations are also to Kyle Chung who was<br />

selected to perform in the recital.<br />
