Gene Pavlenko Congratulations to Gene Pavlenko, Hersey's Student of the Month for September! Nominated by Mr. VanBladel, Gene is being acknowledged for his outstanding contributions to the automotive practicum. Mr. VanBladel commented, “Gene is one of the hardest working students I have had here at Hersey. He continually looks to help out other students, and does a great deal of work on many staff cars. In addition, Gene travels to Wheeling High School every day to take another class that is not offered here at Hersey. He is a great example of pursuing your passion.” Gene is excited to continue his pursuit of a job in the automotive industry, as he has been accepted to the very difficult automotive technology program at Southern Illinois University. He advises Hersey students to “stay true to your beliefs and don’t be afraid to follow your dreams.” 19
Jessica Poplawski Congratulations to Jessica Poplawski, Hersey's Student of the Month for October! Nominated by Mrs. Sapien, Jessica is being acknowledged for her outstanding contributions in Spanish 3. Early in the year, Jessica struggled to keep up with her work and maintain her grades. Jessica has now dedicated herself to improving her learning, and has raised her grade significantly. Mrs. Sapien states, “Jessica comes in to get extra practice and asks questions to get clarification. Jessica has kept a positive attitude and has dedicated herself to learning even more to continue raising her grade.” We are pleased to recognize Jessica for her efforts! 20
