Foreword It gives me great pleasure to introduce the first edition of the Tennis Industry Association’s Tennis Book and I hope that all those of you in the world of British Tennis will find the book interesting and useful. Despite the electronic age of communication in which we now live, we believe that there is value in an accessible reference book which contains all the information about the products and services provided by companies in the tennis industry, together with all their contact details. The entries are divided into sections to make it easier to identify the products or services about which you require information. The Tennis Book is published by the Tennis Industry Association as a service to the tennis industry and tennis public. The TIA has expanded significantly in the last 2 years with 57 member companies now representing virtually all the major companies within the industry. Our aim is to provide all our member companies with a range of benefits and to work closely with the governing body to help them expand the number of tennis players in the UK. It used to be said that for tennis to grow in the UK there must be good role models and players who can compete at international level. Well, we have had Tim Henman and Greg Rusedski, both of whom were top 4 in the world and outstanding role models, we now have Andy Murray who has achieved the remarkable ranking of number 3 in the world at the age of 22. It has become clear however that having a top player does not alone spark a dynamic expansion in the number of tennis players. What is needed is comprehensive and sustained development activity at the grass roots of the game. We believe that the LTA is now addressing this issue and we want to work with them and support them in any way we can. In that way we hope that we and the LTA can achieve our joint objective of growing the game in the UK. This is the first edition of the Tennis Book and it is our intention that it will be updated regularly, so if you have any ideas with which we can improve the product, please let the Editor know and we can consider them before the next publication.
