Adjectives describe nouns; they Ciivs U~UI~I~UU~I<br />

about nouns. See Chart 4-2 for a list of common<br />

adjectives.<br />

Adjectives can come in front of nouns, as in (a).<br />

Adjectives can foUow be, as in @). The adjective<br />

describes the subject of the sentence. See Chart 1-6.<br />

Adjectives can foUow a few other verbs. These verbs<br />

are called "linking verbs." The adjective describes<br />

the subject of the sentence.<br />

Common linking verbs are:<br />

look, smell, feel, taste, and sound.<br />

EXERCISE 38: Find the ADJECTNES and discuss ways adjectives are used.<br />

1. The sun is bright today.<br />

+ bright = an adjective. It follows "be" and describes the subject of the sentence, "sun?'<br />
