(BOOKS CLOSED): In pairs, ask and answer questions.<br />

STUDENT A: Your book is open. Ask a question that begins with "What are you<br />

going to do. . . ?"<br />

STUDENT B: Your book is closed. Answer the question. Include the if-clause in your<br />

answer.<br />

Example:<br />

STUDENT A: What are you going to do if the weather is nice tomorrow?<br />

STUDENT B: If the weather is nice tomorrow, I'm going to sit outside in the sun. OR:<br />

EXERCISE 37: Pair up with a classmate.<br />

STUDENT A: FiU out the calendar with your activities for next week. (If you don't<br />

have many planned activities, invent some interesting ones.) Then give<br />

the calendar to Student B.<br />

STUDENT B: In writing, describe Student A's activities next week. Try to include<br />

some time clauses beginning with when, after, and before. Ask<br />

Student A questions about the activities on hisher calendar to get more<br />

information or clarification.<br />

(Student A is Ali.)<br />

Student B intervieevs Studmt A about his<br />

calendar and then writes: On Sunday, Ali is<br />

going to play tennis with Talal early in the<br />

morning. They're going to play on the tennis<br />

courts here at this school. After they play<br />

tennis, they're going to have breakfast. In the<br />

afternoon, Ali is going to meet Ivan at Cozy's.<br />

Cozy's is a cafe. They're going to have a<br />

sandwich and a cup of coffee before they go to<br />

the soccer game at Memorial Stadium. Ali will<br />

study in the evening before he watches TV and<br />

goes to bed. ,..<br />
