Some P&F Events In 2008
The P&F has undertaken a number of successful events
this year. The year started with the New Parents
Welcome Morning Tea on the second day of school
and was closely followed by the Commencement Cocktail
Party in February.
Jazz band at Jazz at the Oval are: Alistair Haire, Timothy Geldens,
Marcus Ho, Liam Gibson and Natalie Koh.
More recently, the annual Mother’s Day Lunch at the
College Oval in May was held on a beautiful autumn day
and was very well attended. Our guest speaker, Helen
Moran, presented a thought-provoking speech on the
challenges of progressing down the path of indigenous
reconciliation.
Later in May the Mother and Son Mass was a beautiful
service in the Boys’ Chapel followed by an expansive
morning tea in the Quadrangle.
On the first day of June this year the P&F introduced a
new event, the Family Day – Jazz at the Oval. As part of
this day, we marked forty four days to World Youth Day. It
was well attended with children running around and kicking
a ball on the oval while we were entertained by a great
jazz band made up of (mainly) Aloys senior students with
a guest appearance by singer Kate Maclercan. We also
drew our World Youth Day raffle on the day which raised
over $6000 to bring a number of indigenous students to
WYD08.
We have continued the P&F Parent Forums with the
first for the year updating us on World Youth Day. This
was followed by a very popular forum in May on “Risk
taking Behaviour in Adolescence”. Clinical Psychologist
Belinda Jones and NSW Police Officer Francesca Boer
presented a large group of parents with crucial information
on adolescent development and behaviour, things to look
out for and strategies for parents. The P&F plans to continue
with forums on related topics.
The Year Family masses and morning teas are well under
way as are the Year parent functions mostly held in the
evening at the College Oval or The Juana Mateo Room.
