The College by the Harbour - St Aloysius

New Academic Staff
For 2002 we welcome a number of new teachers to the
College, and look forward to their contribution to the life
of the school in so many areas. Listed below is a summary
of each new member of the academic staff, and while we
welcome them we also acknowledge the significant depth of
experience they bring to our classrooms.
Nicholas Boys, BA, DipEd (Macquarie University)
Nic is an Old Boy of Saint Ignatius’ College Riverview and
graduated in 1996, enrolling in a BA at Macquarie University, for
a primary degree specialising in special needs. In 2000-2001 Nic
was involved in practicum work at Roseville Ladies’ College,
Epping Heights Public School, Narromine Public School and
Rydalmere Public School. Nic joins us as Year 4.1 classroom
teacher.
Marianne Busuttil, DipTeach, BEd (University of Wollongong)
Marianne joins our Junior School to teach Year 4.2. Marianne
comes to us from Saint Ignatius’ College Riverview where she
taught for three years, 1999-2001. Prior to that experience,
Marianne was at Holy Spirit, North Ryde from 1988-1998.
Heather Carr, MA, BSocWk, BEd, DipPhysEd
Heather joins the Senior School History department for 12
months to replace Lucas Good who has taken Leave of Absence.
She previously held positions as History teacher/PE teacher;
HOD of PE as well as Junior School Sports Co-ordinator and
taught in 1998-2001 at Saint Ignatius’ College, Riverview part
time; 1987 at St Joseph’s College, Hunter’s Hill; 1986-1988 at
Abbotsleigh; 1988-1992 at Mercedes College, South Australia;
1982-1987 at Pymble Ladies’ College
Paul Diamond, BEng(Hons), PGCE
Paul joined our Mathematics Department in the Senior School
in Term Three 2001. He taught February-June 2001 at
Queenwood School for Girls and September 1998-December
1999 at Parrs Wood High School, Manchester, UK, where he
studied at the University of Manchester, UK. His major areas of
study are Civil Engineering and Mathematics and at St Aloysius’
he has been involved in soccer and cricket.
Joe El-Khoury, BA, DipTeach, MEd (Admin)
Joe returns to us after 5 years employment with Ansett
International, from 1997-2001. He taught at St Aloysius’
College full-time between 1995-1996, and has been a regular
visitor back to the College over the past few years. Prior to his
first stint here, Joe taught at Penshurst Primary School from
1993-1994. His previously held positions at Ansett involved
Cabin Services Manager and Training Manager, having
completed his studies in education/psychology, management,
and training and development at the University of Sydney,
Macquarie University and the University of NSW. Joe’s return to
the College is as a classroom teacher of Year 6 and as Religious
Education Co-ordinator in the Junior School.
Scott Hardgrove, BTeach, BA (University of Newcastle)
Scott comes to St Aloysius’ College from St Edward’s School,
South Tamworth where he taught in 2000-2001 and prior to that
from 1998 at the Catholic Schools Office in Newcastle. Scott
will be teaching Year 5.1 in the Junior School.
where she is Year 5.3 homeroom teacher, having taught K-5 prior
to commencing last year.
Susan Martin, BEd (Hons)
Susan joins our Music Department two days per week in the
Junior School, sharing the role with her husband Wesley. She
taught between 1995-2001 at Mosman Preparatory School for
Boys; 1993-1994 as Junior Music teacher at Moriah College and
1989-1992 as class teacher (K-1) in Calne, Wiltshire, UK.
Susan’s most recent experience involved the role as Music Coordinator
at Mosman Preparatory School for Boys; she taught
pre-school - Year 6 bands & choirs and organised the peripatetic
programme.
Leighanna Miles, MTeach (Primary), BA (University of Sydney)
Leighanna is also a familiar face to the Junior School, having
completed her internship in Term 3, 2001 at the College. She
previously held a position as primary teacher in Term 4, 2001 at
St Paul of the Cross, Dulwich Hill. Leighanna has taken on the
role of Year 3 teacher in the Junior School.
David Molloy, MMus, BMus, BA, AmusACert (Kodaly)
David joins our Music Department as a part time teacher of
Middle School classes. In 2001 David was regularly at the
College as our Organist and has now taken that role on
permanently as well as being a choir accompanist. His range of
experience underlines our good fortune in securing his services.
David attended the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, the
NSW Conservatorium of Music, the University of East Anglia
(UK), the Kodaly Institute (Hungary) and Music Hochseliuls
(Vienna, Austria). He has previously held positions as Director
of Music for the Diocese of Broken Bay; organist/choirmaster,
Corpus Christi Cathedral, St Ives, St Patrick’s Basilica,
Fremantle; Organist at St Stephen’s Cathedral, Brisbane and
taught between 1983-1987 and 1998-2001 at St Patrick’s
College, Strathfield.
Andrew Quinane, BMusEd(University of New South Wales)
Andrew joined our Music staff in Term One 2001, having taught
from 1996-2001 at Mount St Benedict College and 1993-1995
at East Hills Technology High School. Andrew has been a
wonderful acquisition for our Music Department and led the
Chamber Choir with much distinction.
Hannah Tancred, BA(Hons)(University of Sydney),
MTeach(University of Sydney)
Hannah joins our Religious Education department and takes on
the role of homeroom teacher of Year 7.1. In 2001 Hannah
taught Term 4 at James Sheahan Catholic High School, Orange
and Term 3 2001 at Kinross - Wolaroi, Orange, where she
completed her internship.
I acknowledge the vitality and enthusiasm that new staff
members bring to our College. The depth of experience they
have is a wonderful complement to our existing teaching staff in
order that we pursue our Ignatian goal of Ad Maioram Dei
Gloriam (to the Greater Glory of God).

Sara Johnson, Dip Teach, Dip Ed
Sara joined St Aloysius’ College in Term Two 2001 from Holy
Spirit North Ryde where she taught for a number of years. Sara
also brings much experience and knowledge to our Junior School
