Coastal Cousins 

The centre of Hartlepool is sandwiched 

between two contrasting coastal 

treasures. To the north is the historic 

Headland, a proud community, home to 

the oldest architecture in Hartlepool. 

The area is home to some 

great attractions such as the 

Story Trail, St Hilda’s Church 

(ref M-G4 14 ) and The 

Heugh Gun Battery Museum 

(ref M-H4 13 ). A walk around 

the Headland is a real tonic 

any day of the year, as the 

North Sea rolls relentlessly 

into the promenade walls 

and the several piers. 

To the south of the town 

centre, Seaton Carew is a 

busy little seaside resort. The 

architecture is primarily 

Victorian and there is a long 

and easy to access 

promenade. Beyond this you 

will find over two miles of 

golden sands stretching to 

the Marina to the north and 

all the way to the mouth of 

the River Tees to the south. 

Fish and chips 

are never better than 

by the seaside. The
