Bundled Components – In Greater Detail
A. Why Bundle?
Research has shown that current and past users of D-SERIES Fostex recorders are
using these machines in computer-based systems; often trying to sync to external
software editing systems and execute successful audio transfers to/from these
systems. With the D2424 Recording System, a complete system is achieved by
offering a computer connectivity solution and a means to control the recorder from
the computer.
B. D2424 Recorder – See attached feature list
C. Why the RME Hammerfall Sound Card?
By having the audio reside on the D2424 instead of the computer’s hard drive, CPU
performance is substantially conserved. This allows an affordable software package
(i.e. Cubase or Cakewalk) to be used as a computer-based mixer for the D2424 standalone
recorder.
In order to accomplish 24 channels of 24-bit audio, an extremely high performance
sound card was necessary to facilitate real-time mixing and DSP effects
simultaneously.
The Hammerfall was chosen to meet this requirement. It’s unique design, by having
80% of the software driver burned directly in the card’s EPROM, achieves an
industry latency breakthrough of 1.5 milliseconds. The Hammerfall’s overwhelming
compatibility with MAC and PC operating systems such as Windows 95/98/2000/NT,
Linux, and Unix also makes it easy for a systems integrator to choose the best
computer system for their needs.
D. What is C-Console?
C-Console is a software-based fully functional remote and system status controller.
Depending on the application, C-Console has a wide variety of significant benefits to
the current and future line of Fostex products.
‣ Full-Function remote/system status control

Because the extension cable for the D2424 removable front panel has about a 30ft
distance limitation, installing a D2424 recorder at a greater distance from the operator
was not easily possible. With C-Console, the D2424 can be located anywhere in the
world and still be controlled as if it were right in front of you.
This facilitates multiple machine control at Live Events, multi-room facilities, theme
park, and other commercial-type applications. Control can is achieved using TCP/IP
and can be done over a wired or wireless network and even the Internet.
‣ Revolutionize Customer Care and Support
Using the Internet, both the end-user and Fostex customer support representative can
initiate an Internet connection through C-Console. At that moment, a customer
support representative would have full access to the D2424 and can make system
parameter changes and control the unit in real-time. This can also be done by two
end-users. This technology can also be used to download common system
configurations from Fostex’s website allowing users to quickly setup their system
with little to no previous experience with the unit.
‣ Voice Recognition Plug-In
With this plug-in, the D2424 (and other Fostex/C-Console enabled products) can be
fully controlled by giving voice commands. This allows blind and handicapped users
to have full control and functionality of the D2424 with no limitations. This feature
also lends itself to live event applications where hands-off operation may be
necessary for the operator.
