Renaming may help, as also letters stating <strong>the</strong> purpose and content <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

courses. These are important workshops and should continue. The DOL<br />

may also consider holding <strong>the</strong>se workshops at o<strong>the</strong>r venues.<br />

RECOMMENDATIONS:<br />

The number <strong>of</strong> Computer Programmes in Hindi may be increased by<br />

including o<strong>the</strong>r (training) institutes for <strong>the</strong> conduct <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> programmes.<br />

Shorter duration, topic specific programmes would increase learning.<br />

Currently, <strong>the</strong> programs are useful for orientation only.<br />

More facilities, and <strong>the</strong>refore a little more funds, need to be provided<br />

to <strong>the</strong> part-time Hindi teaching programmes. These include higher<br />

honorarium (i.e. <strong>the</strong> present limit <strong>of</strong> Rs. 5000 per annum per faculty<br />

needs to be abolished), better pay scales for regular faculty, better<br />

support systems in terms <strong>of</strong> laptops, white-boards etc. and enhanced<br />

incidentals like increased transport allowances, tea etc.<br />

The ‘Translation courses’ must continue but, perhaps, renamed to<br />

highlight that <strong>the</strong>y are in <strong>the</strong> nature <strong>of</strong> advanced workshops.<br />

DISSEMINATION & PUBLICITY<br />

There can be no difference <strong>of</strong> opinion regarding <strong>the</strong> utility <strong>of</strong> holding<br />

workshops/seminars/ exhibitions etc. to showcase, spread awareness and<br />

motivate. However, too many small schemes may not be very helpful.<br />

Merging <strong>of</strong> schemes, which are handled by one Director, would allow<br />

greater flexibility. Also maintenance expenditure is not a ‘plan’ head and<br />

resources are best used only for publicity (instead <strong>of</strong> meeting maintenance<br />
