The packages also provide grammatical notes, interactive exercises and<br />

self-evaluation tests with markings. The system requirements are a Pentium<br />

IV, 1 GHz with multi-media kit, internet connectivity <strong>of</strong> at least 56 kbps and<br />

Flash Player 6.0 or higher. The stand-alone kit also allows <strong>the</strong> user to<br />

practice <strong>the</strong> writing <strong>of</strong> alphabets. The packages are entirely based on <strong>the</strong><br />

syllabi <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Central Hindi Teaching modules. In this way <strong>the</strong>y provide an<br />

impressive alternative to classroom learning and can be paced as per <strong>the</strong><br />

learner’s requirements.<br />

Although <strong>the</strong> technical and pedagogic features are impressive, <strong>the</strong> usage<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> web version <strong>of</strong> LILA has so far been limited. As per <strong>the</strong> data available<br />

with us, <strong>the</strong> total number <strong>of</strong> users registered for LILA Prabodh, Praveen and<br />

Pragya was 26,603 as on December 3, 2007 (see Table-IV). Compared to<br />

this, <strong>the</strong> regular Hindi language teaching schemes (including<br />

correspondence courses) were able to train about 30,000 employees in one<br />

year (2006-07) alone.<br />
