Evaluation System<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>National</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Open</strong> <strong>Schooling</strong> has certain features in its evaluation system such as<br />

freedom to answer the questions in Public Examinations in any one <strong>of</strong> the scheduled regional<br />

languages, although the Question Papers supplied would generally be in English and Hindi/<br />

available Regional mediums only. Intimation letters and Certificates have scanned photographs<br />

<strong>of</strong> the learners and the information about Examination Centres and results are made available<br />

on the NIOS website. Besides, NIOS has been doing innovations in the evaluation system to<br />

maintain its credibility and standards. <strong>The</strong> On Demand Examination System at Secondary and<br />

Senior Secondary level for the registered canditates is one such innovation.<br />

4.1 Public Examinations<br />

<strong>The</strong> Public Examinations are held twice a year in the months <strong>of</strong> April-May<br />

and October-November on dates fixed by the NIOS. However, you are also<br />

eligible to appear through On Demand Examination at Secondary Level and<br />

Senior Secondary level in those subjects only in which you have taken<br />

admission in NIOS.<br />

(a) Registration for Public Examination for admission through Online<br />

under Stream 1<br />

NOTE<br />

Unless examination fee is<br />

paid within the prescribed<br />

dates, you will not be<br />

allowed to appear in the<br />

examinations.<br />

To appear for the NIOS examination, you must register yourself by filling up the Examination Form<br />

and paying requisite examination fee as given in Table 7 as per schedule given below through your AI.<br />

(i) For April-May Examination:<br />

16th December to 31st December (Without late fee)<br />

1st January to 4th January (With late fee <strong>of</strong> Rs. 50/- per subject)<br />

(ii) For October-November Examination:<br />

16th June to 30th June<br />

(Without late fee)<br />

1st July to 4th July<br />

(With late fee <strong>of</strong> Rs. 50/- per subject)<br />

NOTE<br />

<strong>The</strong> Examination<br />

Form is attached<br />

with the prospectus.<br />

Also a photocopy <strong>of</strong><br />

this may be used for<br />

subsequent<br />

examinations. It can<br />

also be obtained<br />

free <strong>of</strong> cost from<br />

your AI or<br />

download from<br />

NIOS website.<br />

You can also register online for Public Examinations. <strong>The</strong> examination fee can be paid<br />

through credit card (Master or VISA) or Debit Card (VISA only <strong>of</strong> selected bank) or<br />

through Bank Draft drawn in favour <strong>of</strong> “Secretary, NIOS” payable at the concerned<br />

Regional Centre (Appendix 'D') within a week from the date <strong>of</strong> the submission <strong>of</strong><br />

Online application form.<br />

(b) Provision for registration with consolidated late fee<br />

After the prescribed dates, you still have the opportunity to register yourself<br />

by paying the requisite examination fee along with consolidated late fee <strong>of</strong><br />

Rs. 800/ -. This payment will be accepted through a Bank Draft drawn in favour <strong>of</strong> the<br />

“Secretary, NIOS”, payable at the concerned Regional Centre (Appendix “D”)<br />

upto 20th January for April-May examination and 20th July for Oct.-Nov.<br />

examination.<br />

<strong>The</strong>re will be no registration for the examination thereafter.<br />
