8. Bills Against the Chapter: There are no outstanding bills known; i.e.; the floral
arrangement for Joyce Curving’s Memorial did not come from the treasury, and there was
no NGANJ Booster add; i.e.; nothing was published this year (previously approved).
9. Sickness & Distress:
Jackie Peterosilli had surgery for a recurring tumor removal and she is healing on
medication. Radiation will start soon, and they are declining chemotherapy.
CW4(R) Carl Mayo – 44 years with the Guard – recently passed; but was not a
USAWOA member.
SGM(R) Jim Abline of the old 50 th DISCOM NJARNG also recently passed.
Chapter President Al Curving - husband of Joyce M. Curving - expressed
genuine appreciation for the out pouring of love and the floral arrangement
received in her passing on February 17 th , 2011.
10. Membership:
Rich Lawrence reported that he renewed electronically; and has moved his
Chapter affiliation to #0606 Doughboy.
Mr. Curving noted several membership issues:
National automatically sends a new card with renewal statements
assuming that members will remit payment. This can sometimes cause a
member to draw the wrong conclusion that dues are already paid up.
New membership applications are adding $12 to the cost of membership if
hard-copy Newsletters are wanted. There will be no additional charge for
life members, or members with over 25 continuous years. The Newsliner
magazine is transitioning to e-copy.
The Doughboy Chapter raised discussion at the Council of Presidents
(COP) meeting on April 9 th regarding extending free membership to
WO1’s until they make CW2. There would be no additional cost to
National wit e-Newsliners; and it would provide membership throughout
the period that new Warrants are preoccupied with Primary Military
Education (PME) training and often away from home. Director Charlie
Wigglesworth, Vice President Jim White, and Past President Roy Valient
all seem to be on-board, and will bring this issue to President Pete Hill.
11. Communications: Mr. Curving reported several communications items:
National has encountered numerous bad e-mail addresses which has delayed the
conversion to e-Newsliner. Each Chapter needs to help clean this up.
AKO has been experiencing numerous problems and limitations, including a
proposal to eliminate use by non-cac-card subscribers. The Chapter plans to
transition to Google soon, and CW2 Bob Barea is working this issue.
Congratulations were sent to CW4 Guy Remig who has been selected as the next
CCWO-NJ upon his return from deployment. CW4 Victor Balint has replaced
retiring CW5 Richardson as interim CCWO-NJ until Guy’s return.
Congratulations were sent to CW5 John Pavlich, former Chapter Vice President,
upon his retirement in Virginia.
Regarding CW5 Designated Parking, BG (R) Jeff Pierson has responded that
CW5 parking will be designated at the beach at Sea Girt; but BG Gina Grosso,
JB-MDL has not responded. Marc Garduno noted that he will research an
alternative POC, and provide this to Mr. Curving for follow-up on this issue.
12. Executive Committee Reports/Remarks:
President’s Report:
The COP was held April 9 th at National VP Jim White’s home in Lebanon PA.
MOAA is also an important association that all Warrant Officers should consider
joining. See CW2 (R) Bill Luckenbill or CW5 (R) Bill Olson for details.
Widespread use of SSNs has been causing identity theft issues, and SSNs are being
removed from ID cards and DD214’s.
AMM 2012 will be held in Harrisburg PA, and it is expected that all NE Region
Chapters may be asked to donate $250 to assist with Hospitality costs, etc.
Discussion followed, and on motion by Nancy Rowbotham, and second by Pat
Stroud, it was unanimously approved to accrue, track, and utilize the “Chapter
Donation Jar” income for this purpose, as well as any receipts specifically
designated for this purpose.
Vice President’s Report: No report.
Fund Raising Committee: No report and no Chair.
Scholarship Committee: Nancy Rowbotham read a written report from CW4
Tom Comyack (Attached). Two $300 scholarships are pledged to Pemberton High
School this year from the Ryan Dale Bogle Fund. Regarding the new Scholarship for
Chapter members and their families, no applications have been received, and the
deadline for closing is 1 June 2011.
Awards Committee: No report. Mr. Curving noted that new USAWOA award
guidance # 900-1 has been published, which includes an “Eagle Rising” award.
Care Package Committee: Pat Stroud read a written report provide by Tom
Comyack (Attached) regarding U.S.M.W.A.Y.S. activities; and gave a verbal report
regarding his own Care Package activities with local Union 825.
Mr. Curving queried: “How do we trap our own deployed people?” Michelle
Thomas noted she can possibly help with deployed NJ Guard personnel.
It was noted that U.S.M.W.A.Y.S. meets in their club house every Wednesday
from 11:00-12:00 to receive donations and gifts, and on the 1 st Saturday of
each month from 08:00-09:00 for packing; and they welcome volunteers.
4
Nominations Committee: Mr. Curving noted he is Chairing this Committee for
the election year 2012-2013 as the outgoing two-term President ineligible to run
again. The goal is to lock up nominations following the July meeting, and mail out
ballots that will also include space for write-in candidates. As of this meeting: only
one person is considering the office of President, there are two or three interested in
Vice President, one for Secretary, and one for Treasurer.
Information Officer/Public Affairs Committee: Mr. Curving noted that he met
with CW2 Robert Barea who is creating a Doughboy G-mail Group to enable
transitioning away from AKO. Mr. Curving is providing e-addresses to for Mr.
Barea to send invitations to join the new group, and these should be going out soon.
13. Old Business: Mr. Curving noted that Doughboy Chapter Member concerns that were
raised at the January 2011 meeting regarding proposed changes to WO-PME were brought to the
NE Region COP meeting on April 9 th and USAWOA Executive Director, and former WOCC
Assistant Commandant Charlie Wigglesworth will look into this further. It was also noted that
several new buildings are under construction at Fort Rucker to accommodate PME changes.
14. New Business: CW2 Francis Lawrence awarded Mr. Curving a “28 th Combat Aviation
Brigade – OIF 09-11 Warrant Officer Coin.
15. For the Good of the Order: Nothing noted.
16. Adjournment: There being no further business at hand, a motion to adjourn was made
by Richard Lawrence at 19:55, seconded by Michelle Thomas, and unanimously
carried. The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for Saturday 16 July 2011 at the
pavilion in Sea Girt. The meeting will start between 11:00-11:30. A picnic and BBQ
will follow, and then beach access to the Jersey Shore is available to all who attend.
Respectfully Submitted,
