Dembow, vice-president in charge of sales, and William B. Brenner, vice-president in charge of service, who arrived from New Yorli. Burton E. Robbins, son of the president, and attached to the home office, accompanied that group. Others here were district managers Bernard Wolfe, of the west coast, and Charles Lester of Atlanta, and branch managers Ben Ashe, Los Angeles; Jack Marpole, San Francisco; Jack Flannery, Seattle; Fred Weiman, Salt Lake; Gilbert Clark, Oklahoma City; Al Rosenthal, Memphis; J. L. Boyer, New Orleans, and F. W. "Doc" Allen, Dallas. One evening's entertainment was provided at the Cipango club, and all meetings were held in an exclusive suite at the DaUas Athletic club. Hotel accommodations were not to be had but Robbins and Dembow were fortunate in obtaining an oil millionaire's suite at the club for two nights. After discussing the new sales plans and ideas, Robbins indicated he was sniffing a favorite food odor and remembered he always ate barbecue sandwiches while visiting Filmrow. . . . . Big Amarillo Doings For 'Panhandle' Bow AMARILLO. TEX.— Amarillo turned out .1 huge crowd Wednesday night for the world premiere of the Allied Artists picture, "Panhandle." at the Paramount. Steve Broidy. president of Monogram and Allied Artists, arrived with stars of the film- Rod Cameron, Gale Storm, Roddy McDowall. Max Terhune. and Producer J. C. Champion. William O'Donnell. Frank Starz aiid Conrad Brady from Interstate circuit headquarters in Dallas participated and Lloyd Rust and Ed Blumenthal of the Monogram exchange also came in from Dallas. A junior cowboy contest, a west Texas barbecue at the Herring hotel, a band from the Amarillo college, police escorts, and presence of city officials added color to the premiere festivity. Jack King, Interstate city manager, made the arrangements. The Dallas visitors left next day to be on hand for the opening at the Majestic there, which preceded key city showings in other Texas cities. DALLAS IJoward Hiegcl, manager of the Avon Theatre was absent from that job during last illness and burial of his grandfather, the Joseph L. Hiegel. A partner, Frank Merrill, ran the house in his absence . Ed Euler, employe of Southwestern Theatre Equipment Co., flew around in off hours in a private plane looking for his airport. He finally located it. He has been flying since his recent discharge from the army. B. A. Weller, who put in the first independent theatre at Brownwood since sound came along, the Texas, was here taking care of his house requirements for some time to come. He rarely makes the long trip here, preferring to make his deals with film and equipment men who travel . . . Debbs Hale, Jefferson Amusement Co. booker, had his appendix removed and was sent home in the modern manner even before this notice could be printed. George Mitchell, v/ho has worked for the Eddie Joseph Theatres in Austin for some time, was here on vacation after ending that connection. He plans to rest up for some time before taking another assignment . Wallace Blankenship, who operates the Panhandle circuit, with headquarters in Lubbock, was in town on retui-n home from a long rest in Houston. New Orleans and Miami. Mrs. Peggy Harris, a National Theatre Supply secretary for seven years on February 24, is said to hold a record among women of that office for continuous service. She was secretary to the late J. I. who gave her the job. Roberts, John Franconl returned from Kansas City, where he attended a banquet marking the retirement of three old acquaintances, O. K. Mason, vice-president of the Commonwealth circuit; Ward E. Scott, 20th-Fox district manager, and Ray M. Copeland, Paramount branch manager.
