HARWOOD DALLAS 1, TEXAS East Texas to Build Six Drive-In Places BEAUMONT, TEX.—The first of six drive-in theatres to be built by East Texas Theatres, Inc., will be opened here March 26, according to S. L. Oakley, vice-president and general manager of the circuit. Construction of a similar layout in Lufkin is scheduled to start soon and others will be built as rapidly as possible at Marshall, Longview, Kilgore and Nacogdoches. The site for the Lufkin Theatre has already been selected, according to Sam Tanner, district manager. East Texas Theatres is headed by Julius Gordon of Beaumont. NE\N ORLEANS pecord rainfall, which flooded the entire territory and flowed from eight to 24 inches deep on downtown New Orleans streets, resulted in as much as a 50 per cent drop in boxoffice grosses throughout the area last week. : March Columbia Transfers Roscoe to Atlanta NEW YORK—George Roscoe, Charlotte branch manager lor Columbia, has been named manager of the Atlanta exchange, with R. D. Williamson, Charlotte salesman, named to succeed him in Charlotte. They work under the supervision of R. J. Ingram, southeastern district manager. Roscoe joined Columbia in May 1933 as a salesman in Charlotte. He was named manager in February 1944. Williamson joined the company two years later as a sale.sman in Charlotte. Crestview Ticket Levy Lands in Courts Again CRESTVIEW, FLA. — Once more Crestview's city amusement tax ordinance has landed in the courts. Judge Stuart Gillis has issued a temporary injunction which requires the tax to be paid to the court until a final decision is reached. The ruling was handed down in a suit brought by Neal Robinson who asked a declaratory judgment to prevent the city from collecting the tax. Some six months ago Judge Gillis declared a similar ordinance to be illegal. Recently a new ordinance was passed. A final decision on the case will not be reached, said Judge Gillis, until a similar case now pending in the state supreme court is decided. mM^M Two Managers Shifted By Florida Theatres ORLANDO, FLA.—WUliam J. Wilson jr. is the new manager of the Beacham Theatre. He was transferred to Orlando from Winter Park where for the past few years he has been in charge of the Colony. Wilson has been connected with Florida State Theatres 12 years, going to Winter Park from the Vogue Theatre in Orlando. Therefore his return to Orlando is somewhat in the nature of a home-coming. Ralph W. Saunders, who has been manager of the Vogue in Orlando, replaced Wilson as manager of the Colony in Winter Park. With him the change is also a homecoming, as at one time he was manager of the Colony. J. T. Lester Buys Ground For Parking in Memphis MEMPHIS— J. T. Lester, owiier of the new- Park Theatre here, has purcha.sed additional land to the east of his theatre to be used for parking space. The $12,000 land purchase will give the Park a much larger lot. Lester plans to blacktop the lot so it will be an all-weather affair. He already owned a 125xl50-foot lot for parking. The new lot is 114 by 200 feet. Plan Huntsville Drive-In HUNTSVILLE, ALA.—Plans are being completed for construction of a drive-in theatre on Whitesburg drive here. ORLANDO, FLA.—WUliam J. Wilson jr. is<br />

the new manager of the Beacham Theatre.<br />

He was transferred to Orlando from Winter<br />

Park where for the past few years he has<br />

been in charge of the Colony. Wilson has<br />

been connected with Florida State Theatres<br />

12 years, going to Winter Park from the<br />

Vogue Theatre in Orlando. Therefore his<br />

return to Orlando is somewhat in the nature<br />

of a home-coming. Ralph W. Saunders,<br />

who has been manager of the Vogue in Orlando,<br />

replaced Wilson as manager of the<br />

Colony in Winter Park. With him the<br />

change is also a homecoming, as at one<br />

time he was manager of the Colony.<br />
