Evening shows will be at 7:15 and 9:15. RKO screened "Fort Apache" at the Uptown here . Cedar Rapids groups heard Irvin Deer speak last week. They were the Executive Ass'n, the Lion's club and the Coe college student body. Excavation has begun for the basement of a new theatre building in Glidden ... A new sign has been installed on the Leo at Cumberland . in remodeling work at the Masonic Theatre in What Cheer are new sound equipment and new strong arcs in the projection booth ... On March 1, the Earl, Earlham, began showing pictures six nights a week. The house will be dark on Wednesday—chmxh night in Earlham. Shows will change Sunday and Thursday. COMPLETELY NEW

Top newcomer was "To the Ends of the Earth" at the Midland, which scored 115 on the barometer clock. "The Bishop's Wife." top newcomer last week, again pulled down high score with 125 in its second stanza at the Orpheum. The picture was held over for a third frame. "I Walk Alone." in it.s second week at the Paramount, dropped to below average, but "Call Northside 777." which moved over to the Esquire for a second stanza, improved through its new location. "The Smugglers" was held for an extra day at the Roxy, winding up with business 10 per cent over par. Black Bart ._75 ''-Ii Frank Gullingsrud Marks 50th Year as Stagehand DULUTH, MINN.—Frank Gullingsrud, stage manager of the Norshor Theatre here and for more than three decades propertyman at the Lyceum, can now write "50 years a stage hand." March 6 marked his golden anniversary as a member of local 32, lATSE. He has been president for the last 20 years. Gullingsrud, dean of the stage L-y^^^^^H ^_\^|||m managers of the northwest, has one of the Frank Gnllingsrud finest collection of autographed photographs of the greats and near-greats of the theatrical world since the late 90's. Dan J. Hudson, general manager of the Norshor, and Gullingsrud first met in 1924 when Dan, with his sister, appeared in a song and dance act on the Lyceum stage with the Duluth Kiddies, a footlight troupe. Ted Fitzgerald Transferred As TEI Juggles Managers MANHATTAN, KAS.—Resignations, promotions and transfers have caused several changes in the staff of the four TEI houses here. John Henderson, chief projectionist at the Sosna, has resigned to take a position with an oil company in Russell. He has been replaced by David Church, formerly of the Wareham. Another new face at the Sosna. TBI's campus showcase, is James Murphy, who was transferred here from the circuit's Chief In Hiawatha. Ted Fitzgerald. State manager, has been promoted to the managership of the Mozark in Springfield, Mo. Ralph Utermoehlen has been named the new State manager, replacing Fitzgerald. St. Paul Tax Beaten In Referendum Vote ST PAUL Votcis lure decisively defeated proposed 5 per cent city admission tax in a a referendum here Tuesday. The result was a big victory for theatre interests, which took the lead in the fight against it. Northwest Allied played a particularly active part in the campaign. Theatres distributed petitions calling for the referendum, ran trailers urging all voters to cast their ballots and had large newspaper ads urging the tax's defeat. St. Paul business interests generally were against the tax. LmtM O. F.
