'Killer McCoy' Is Big
Despite Loop Snows
CHICAGO—New attractions upped busi-
.
a big way at most Loop houses until
ness in
midweek when a severe snowstorm plus an
icy blast caused grosses to sag.
The Oriental got off to a great start with
"Killer McCoy" plus an all-star stage bill
headed by Yvonne De Carlo and the King
Cole trio. The first four days were record
breakers. "You Were Meant for Me" also
opened very big at the United Artists. The
State-Lake with "The Arnelo Affair" plus a
stage show headed by Phil Regan and the
Hoosier Hot Shots did okay. Another newcomer,
"Black Bart," did only fair at the
Palace.
Among the holdovers "Shoe-Shine" at the
World Playhouse was still a standout, with
"The Voice of the Turtle" at the Roosevelt,
and "Gentleman's Agreement" following close
behind. "Desire Me" at Monroe, and "The
Bishop's Wife" at the Woods held up well.
