MEDICAL EXCUSE POLICY It is the policy of Student Health Services not to write excuses for absence from class. Phone verification of Health Center visits may be provided to an instructor at the student’s request. No confidential information about the student’s health status can be released without the student’s permission. Laboratory and diagnostic testing will be billed to you or your insurance carrier. It is your responsibility to know your insurance coverage and how to access it. For those in need of insurance, there is a group insurance policy authorized by the University. Applications and claim forms are available at the Student Health Center. EMERGENCIES Urgent care is provided; however in the event that medical treatment is required when our office is closed, call the University police at 724-738-3333 if you live on campus and 911 if you live off campus. SERVICES AVAILABLE TO ALL REGISTERERD SRU STUDENTS<br />

General medical care by nurse practitioners, registered nurses and physicians<br />

Evaluation, treatment and management of episodic and chronic health problems<br />

Many common prescription and over-the-counter medications are provided<br />

Self-Care Center for minor health concerns<br />

Allergy injections given. <strong>Student</strong>s must supply serum and physician instructions.<br />

Immunizations—MMR, Tetanus, Hepatitis A&B, Influenza, Meningitis, Tdap, and TB testing<br />

Free pregnancy testing, HIV, and STD testing<br />

Referral to other healthcare specialists<br />

Gynecological and contraceptive services<br />

Physical examinations for employment, driver’s license, sports, etc.<br />

Transportation by van to local hospitals, other healthcare specialists<br />

Overnight inpatient care<br />

Resource library on a variety of health-related topics<br />

Options contraceptive education workshops offered throughout the semester<br />

<strong>Student</strong>-managed Protection Connection contraceptive program<br />

Safer sex supplies available for purchase through the Protection Connection<br />

ELIGIBILITY FOR TREATMENT<br />

A completed health history must be<br />

on file at the <strong>Health</strong> Center with upto-date<br />

immunizations.<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s must be currently enrolled<br />

in classes at the time of treatment.<br />

CONFIDENTIALITY<br />

All services are confidential. Your health<br />

record is a private matter between you<br />

and your healthcare provider. No<br />

medical information (including the reason<br />

for your visit) can be released without<br />

your written permission.<br />

STAFF<br />

<strong>Student</strong> <strong>Health</strong> <strong>Services</strong> is professionally<br />

staffed with physicians, nurse<br />

practitioners, registered nurses, a<br />

certified health education specialist and<br />

clerical staff experienced in assisting the<br />

health needs of college students. The<br />

staff have specialized areas of expertise<br />

and are prepared to address the wide<br />

range of college health concerns.<br />
