“I can honestly say that without such a caring and hardworking
language department, I would not be where I am today -- living and
working in France, having the time of my life. The department
provided me with many experiences, both on campus and off, that
I will never forget.”
Yearly Events
National French Week
This is an annual celebration of French speaking cultures during the first week in
November created by the American Association of Teachers of French. At SRU the
French Club and the faculty offer a series of events.
Hispanic/Latino Cultures Series
We celebrate this mostly during the month of October, but events can occur
throughout the year. It is organized in conjunction with different departments
on campus as well as the Spanish Club and the Student Organization of
Latinos and Allies.
World Languages Competition
Yearly, the department organizes a foreign language competition for high school
students in French, German, Latin, and Spanish. This event has been running for
more than 25 years and attracts more than 300 students a year. It is made possible
through the collaboration of the entire language faculty, language students, and
the secretary of the department.
