MEET OUR NEW EXCUTIVE CHEF Nicholas Raymondi 

Grew up in the Restaurant industry starting out as a 

dish washer, during the process he discovered a 

passion for cooking, pairing flavors and authentic 

discovery of culinary excellence. Raymondi took a 

chance and opportunity to attend culinary school in 

Pasadena, where he excel in learning all type, styles 

and love for cooking. After graduating from Le 

Courdon Bleu, Raymondi continue his journey to Palm 

Springs, where he took the Sous Chef position at 

Jakes Restaurant. Wanting further knowledge 

Raymondi made the move to Las Vegas, working 

alongside Iron Chef Mario Batali in B&B Ristorante 

learning new, and active stations like Auti Pasti to Grill 

Pasta. Raymondi made his way back to Palm Springs 

to take place as the Executive Chef position at 

“Georgie’s Alibi Azul Patio” bringing the love for 

culinary food pairing, FRESH Ingredients and 

Seasonal Fruits and Vegetables, in the months to 

come New and Exciting plate will take center like 

Chicken Marsala a family tradition and patron favorite,

Thyme Lewis, Producer, Actor, Daredevil 

Thyme Stands Still For No One 

Thyme Lewis is a person of many talents – one his greatest talents, 

raising funds for film. Fundraising for any project is difficult. Film 

is wrought with financial risk. Even a Hollywood A-Lister, is no 

guarantee of financial success (Ishtar anyone??) 

Thyme was born in San Francisco and grew up along the Big Sur and 

Carmel coast. He is the poster child for the quintessential California 

Guy. Handsome, athletic and a daredevil at heart, Thyme surfed, 

stunt drives (2014 Mercedes E class campaign), modeled and 

became an actor.

At 23 he immersed himself in acting classes. Thyme landed the plum 

role of Jonah Carver on the soap opera, Days Of Our Lives. He played 

Peter Valente on Sunset Beach. He appeared in other TV and film 

projects. He left acting at the height of success. But the lure of film 

drew him back. 

“I am a hands-on person”, said Thyme. “When I returned to film, 

I approached it as any business. I look for good solid properties. 

Strong scripts that I could wrap around talented people. Films, 

especially low budget and ultra low budget films, rely on the pooling 

of all talent. Director, Line Director, actors, crew – everyone does 

a little of everything. If the bathroom needs, plunging, well, I am 

there. These films only work, because the assembled team works 

together”. 

Thyme is the Executive Producer on Palm Swings. “This film follows 

a young couple, played by Sugar Lyn Beard and Jackson Davis, who 

find themselves caught up in a sensual and erotic world of sexual 

swingers. Yes the film does explore sex,“ said Thyme. “But the film is 

much more – it is the story of two people. Without their love, Palm 

Swings would not be a complete story.” 

With a budget of $200,000 Thyme and co-producers Steve Carson, 

Randy Wayne and Producer/Director Sean Hoselli, brought the 

original screenplay of Amada Lockhart to film. “The first to sign on 

was Jason Lewis, best known as Smith from Sex in the City. With 

Sugar and Jackson, we brought in actors Diane Farr and Madison 

McKinley,” continued Thyme. “We were fortunate to assemble a 

great crew, secure key locations in the area and find a talent pool 

of extras that rounded out the project. We all, working as a team, 

created an outstanding movie.” 

As Palm Swings wraps up, Thyme is thinking of the next project. 

“I receive many scripts but few stand out. I have several that I am 

ready to take on. Funding is always key. But like other independent 

film projects, we have shown that great films do not need 40 million 

dollar budgets. A great film is great because of the dedication of the 

team. I am fortunate to work with great teams.” 

Will Thyme’s projects bring him back to the Palm Springs area? 

“Definitely. I was talking to actress/producer Trish Cook. She asked if 

I’d help bring her project “September” here in September. I replied, 

‘It doesn’t drop below 100 degrees until second week in October. If 

you’re open to October, I’m in!””said Thyme as he drove out of sight 

in his bright orange Barracuda.

VALLEY OF THE ARTS 

On our five day journey to the city of Lost Angels, aka Los Angelas 

and along the coast, we experienced an action packed 

extravaganza, complete with art, great weather, food, and many 

visits to art venues through out the city. 

The Bregamot Station Arts Center was one such venue, and 

it just blew us away with so much in one location! The Santa 

Monica Museum of Art is also located here at 2525 Michigan 

Ave. Santa Monica CA 90404. We liked the fresh food so much 

we ate at the cafe twice. You should plan to spend at least 1 day 

at this amazing destination: www.smmoa.org . We stayed at the 

Le Mont-rose in West Hollywood which is even in walking distance 

to everything fab and glam. We heard many rumors that 

great legends such as Marilyn Monroe stayed in this chic boutique 

hotel which is complete with pool on the roof, over looking 

the city. 

The highlight of our trip, was the last night, where we stayed in 

Laguna by the ocean. The water was just the perfect temperature 

to cool down with, and the waves were spectacular for body 

surfing. We decided on a restaurant that specializes in Mexican 

seafood called Las Brisas. High above the ocean we had an 

amazing view, of not only the ocean, but also the pacific coast 

line. While dining, we almost imagined being on the coast of 

Spain, gazing over the homes and businesses perched high on 

the sea side cliffs. We are so fortunate to live in this beautiful 

desert, “The Valley of The Arts”, which is so accessible to not 

only the high desert but to ocean and mountains. 

This year’s current show is titled, “The Art Detective” with so 

many amazing paintings that come to life, with real live people 

on stage. We would like to point out two incredibly beautiful 

paintings, that also have been painted by Lon Michels, here on 

display at the Lon Michels Gallery. 

But first, we met by Sharbie Higuchi director of Marketing and 

PR. Not only was she helpful by giving us information about 

the performance, she is incredibly friendly and likable. The first 

painting we would like to mention is titled “Olympia”, 1863-1865, 

by Édouard Manet. At first sight, we could not believe we were 

viewing real people as models in these works, it is astonishing. 

Lon’s tribute to this painting is also life size, but he reverses the 

roles of the models for a more contemporary interpretation. Also 

fascinating to see is, “Luncheon on the Grass”, 1863, once again 

by Manet. This masterpiece, which is also the first of Impressionist 

paintings, comes to life right before your eyes. Not only is 

Lon’s homage to this painting five times life size, he also incorporated 

the deities throughout the world in his version, which 

is exhibited at the Lon Michels Gallery. Here is a helpful hint, 

if you attend this amazing event of the arts, we found that the 

$20 dollar seats were just as good as the $200 dollar seats, as 

long as you bring binoculars. With the help of these binoculars, 

we were able to see ever so slightly, when the actors/models 

moved, which made it seem more real and believable. All and all 

this experience is something we will remember for a lifetime and 

we highly recommend the Pageant of The Masters to everyone 

young and old. 

Robert Morris was a delightful young man who was our food 

server at Las Brisis. There was no shortage of very good looking 

restaurant staff, who took pain staking measures to make sure 

our service was impeccable. The nachos alone were like eating 

specialty gourmet appetizers, and the seafood entree was exquisite. 

Robert informed us he is a surfer dude,who just moved 

from Florida, where the waves are not like they are here in CA. 

After a scrumptious romantic dinner we thought we better head 

towards our next destination, The Pageant of the Masters, 

where art comes to life.

Well I finally got in to see the new psychiatrist and after talking for a

But we have treatment for that and we will get my drugs in line. I

music venues, festivals, pool parties, and outdoor music stages. There 

is a playful and growing new vibe downtown and Hard Rock Hotel Palm 

Springs is the heart of it. Now there is a recent announcement by Kim 

and Jim Productions(Kim Waltrip and Jim Casey) and The Hard Rock 

Hotel that Live It Up Productions’, ‘Top Rock’ will be headlining there. 

A fitting show for the Hard Rock, this show embodies the true spirit of 

Rock ‘n’ Roll with hard-hitting highlights from current and classic rock 

hits. 

You will be taken on an epic journey with edgy, elaborate costuming, 

spectacular light design, “in your face” choreography, unforgettable 

arrangements and an ensemble of hard-core, and exceptionally talented 

performers. 

I caught up with Live It Up Productions Executive Producer Jim Casey, 

Creative Director of Live It Up, Trini Garza (and President), and Co- 

Creative Director, Brandon Alameda to bring you the details in this 

exclusive interview. 

LIVE Magazine: How did you become involved in Live It Up and 

subsequently bring LIVE it UP to Hard Rock? 

Jim: When I was asked by the Desert Aids Project to do ‘Dinner at My 

Place’, which is a series of dinners for fundraising. I was talking with Trini and 

I told him I did not know what to do and he said, “well, I have friends who can 

sing!” So Trini took over that dinner for me and made it happen and I was 

so blown away that then we started to work together and the first thing we 

worked on together was the Steve Chase Awards and one thing after another. 

Then I was approached by Andy Carpiac, whom I had known for years from 

LA, who bought Hotel Zozo, to do something at the hotel. New Years Eve 

2012, we did ‘50 Shades of Dusque’, which is a show that Trini had created 

at Hotel Zozo. When the Hotel became Hard Rock Hotel we were asked to 

come back and here we are. 

LIVE Magazine-Can you give us some history on yourself, Trini? How 

and why did you start LIVE IT UP? 

Trini: I was a singer and dancer for like ten years and then I went into 

directing and I used to direct large corporate shows for companies based 

here in Southern California and then I moved to Las Vegas where I began 

to do shows at The MGM Grand in the theme park and other corporate 

events that would come in and also I directed some shows at The Venetian 

and some special events at Mandalay Bay. I did move back to Southern 

California to be with my mom who became ill. I took a break for a short while 

and then one day while at my home some very talented friends who were 

over and I decided to do a show. We took that show to Sun City in Palm

Desert and that was our very first Live It Up performance. And it just kind of 

took off from there! 

LIVE Magazine: What Rock Artists will be featured in the show? 

Trini: We feature Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, The Rolling Stones, and we 

do a different take on the Beatles. The Beatles are the only band that is 

not an 80’s band but let me remind you that we kind of consider them the 

‘Grandfather of Rock and Roll’ so to give gratitude and to honor them. So 

we take some of their songs and make them a little bit more 80’s and 90’s 

sounding to give it that kind of feel. 

LIVE Magazine: It has been said that the choreography is somewhat 

Rock and somewhat Broadway style, can you elaborate on that? 

Brandon: Yes, most of the corporate events lean towards that Broadway 

style. We are more going towards the Rock genre, the more ‘Pushing the 

envelope” - a little “ in your face”, but it’s still packed with audience favorites 

like Pop Rock, Rocking the Gatsby, and shows like that. We push the 

envelope, but we know where the line is. We make it edgy, we make it 

relevant...we don’t go beyond the edge of pushing the envelope, but, you 

know, we try. 

LIVE Magazine: You have amazing talent in the show, it would be hard 

to say, but are there any ‘stand-out’ performers? 

Trini: Well they are all wonderful but I guess I can say that there are 

audience favorites. A couple just off the top of my head, I would say Dani 

Armstrong who is one of the redheads. However this time for Top Rock she 

will have purple hair. And Derek Ferguson. He is one of those performers 

who performs with complete abandonment. He will try anything. People 

love that risk factor about him. Derek is also a film actor who was recently 

featured in a film starring Ashton Kutcher. 

LIVE Magazine: Where do you typically find this talent? 

Trini: All of the talent in the show have done films, theatre, Broadway, and 

tv. But what literally happened was that we called our friends. We started out 

making a list and while calling, we realized that these are our friends. When 

we did our ‘first call’ we decided on all of them. At another show we had over 

300 come for ‘interviews’ so we were able to find and bring you new talent 

that you have never seen. So the new talent has already been in some of the 

shows so they have become part of the family too!’

LIVE Magazine: The cast is consistent, are you like a family? 

Trini: Definitely we are family, but we do have different tasks. The talents 

who work the shows all say it is more like a family. As a matter of fact, Dani 

was proposed to on set during the show TOP ROCK in Los Angeles, so that 

just gives you an idea how much people love this company --that they feel 

comfortable enough to share a life changing event with the show and its 

audiences! 

LIVE Magazine: Since 1995, the Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards Gala 

has raised literally millions of dollars for direct client services at Desert 

Aids Project. How did Live It Up become involved in The Steve Chase 

Humanitarian Awards? 

Jim: When I became event co-chair of Desert AIDS Project (DAP) back in 

2008, there was a format that had been followed for years and it was more of 

a award presentation dinner followed by a solo performer. After the first year 

following that concept, I started talking to fellow DAP board member, Barbara 

Keller, about mixing it up a bit and that was in 2009. That was the first year 

that Steve Chase Awards started bringing in multiple performers. Then at 

the end of the evening I wanted a ‘grand-finale’ to close the night down that 

would be memorable and that is when we do the song ‘Seasons of Love’ 

from ‘Rent’ and it was so well received. Trini brought ‘his friends’ to sing it. 

It was great! We started talking after the show and that is when the idea of 

LIVE IT UP with the help of the incredible talent of Brandon..... and Trini. 

Basically we asked Trini and Brandon to create a show around the awards 

gala. That is when it catapulted because it was made to be an experience 

for the audience. What makes me so proud is with all the power of this 

entertainment, you still do not lose the reason that we are there. Last year 

was a quintessential example of this energy is when we honored film-makers 

who showcased the story of HIV and AIDS. So with Trini bringing in such 

top notch performers and selecting the best talent, singers and dancers to 

entertain you, the show carries the message home to help raise the needed 

money. 

LIVE Magazine: Palm Springs is in a renaissance lately. Live 

entertainment like LIVE IT UP is perfect for our city. It helps us rank 

as a top place to live and visit. In a way this is economic development. 

Isn’t this what it is about, Jim? 

Jim: With the change in Palm Springs, it has become less of a ‘seasonal 

town’ and less of a tourist residence, as there are plenty of new residents 

here and we are also getting a lot of the younger demographics because of 

things like ToP RoCK, SPLASH HoUSE, CoACHELLA FEST all of which 

help. When Hard Rock Hotel Palm Springs came to us we felt we were a 

perfect marriage to create something like TOP ROCK because while watching 

the audience of TOP ROCK you will see a wide range of demographics. You 

will have 20’s to 70’s because this is music that they all know, they love it! It 

really does expand on what is happening in Palm Springs right now!

Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival 2014 Schedule 

The Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival (CCI-IFF) 

returns as part of Comic-Con International for its 15th year. The CCI- 

IFF once again features a complete schedule of films from around the 

world, including the United States, Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, 

Germany, Israel, Italy, New Zealand, Philippines, Russia, South Korea, 

Spain, and Trinidad and Tobago. 

The Festival features the very best in in genre films in in seven categories: 

Action/Adventure, Animation, Comics-Oriented, Documentary (Pop 

Culture-Oriented), Horror/Suspense, Humor/Parody, and Science 

Fiction/Fantasy. The films have been judged by a panel of industry 

luminaries (click here for more info), including last year's winner Dave 

Gallegos, actor Doug Jones, and noted cosplayer HALF and PAGE Film VERTICAL School co- 

AD 

head Valerie Perez. Awards will be given out to to the best 4.7292 film in in X each

category, plus an overall “Judges’ Choice” award, on Sunday in in the 

Film Festival room. The award recipients’ films will be rescreened on 

Sunday following the awards ceremony. 

All films will be screened at at the San Diego Marriott Marquis and Marina,

In In 1940 World War II II was underway, Franklin D. D. Rossevelt was President, 

and the small community of of Hillcrest hoisted its its neon sign over the town’s 

main intersection of of 5th and University Avenues. But as as time passed the 

sign became worn and went dark. The community came together and 

raised funds for restoration of of the sign on on August 26th, 1984. This was 

the unofficial start of of City Fest and it it was once again a a bright symbol of of a a 

community working together. Then a a few years ago, the sign was once again 

lowered and hoisted back and relight. This iconic sign is is a a symbol of of Hillcrest

A few weeks ago I was at Harvey Milk’s American Diner. Talk about a 

community hang out, well this is it! The boys are always ready to lend a 

helping hand. 

I was having dinner and to my surprise members of The Metropolitan 

Community Church were there and I happened to walk over and Break Bread 

with them. What a fun group they are. Come to find out, they do this every 

month at a different restaurant in the community. The MCC of San Diego 

is active in the greater community participating in LGBT Pride, the annual 

Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast, the Hillcrest Youth Center, The Community 

Leadership Council, Social Justice actions, Aids Walk San Diego, and much 

more. Over 30 congregants from the Metropolitan Community Church, 

including Senior Pastor Dan Koeshall, enjoyed a great evening of dining at

The Dr. Miriam & Sheldon G. Adelson Educational Campus will 

honor activist, writer and politician Ayaan Hirsi Ali at the 10th 

Annual In Pursuit of Excellence Gala on Saturday, November 

22, 2014 at 6:30pm at The Venetian Resort-Hotel-Casino. 

Ayaan Hirsi Ali will be honored with the Dr. Miriam and Sheldon 

G. Adelson In Pursuit of Excellence Award for her political 

activism and dedication to human rights. Ms. Hirsi Ali is the 

founder of the AHA Foundation, which works to protect and 

defend the rights of women and girls in the United States from 

harmful traditional religious and cultural practices such as honor 

violence, forced marriages and female genital mutilation. She 

is the recipient of several awards including HALF the Moral PAGE Courage VERTICAL AD 

Award for her commitment to conflict resolution, ethics 4.7292 and X 16 

world citizenship. In 2005, Ms. Hirsi Ali was named one of the 

100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine. 

She is a fellow of numerous prestigious and world-renowned 

institutes including the John F. Kennedy School of Government 

at Harvard University. 

Ms. Hirsi Ali is also an acclaimed author. Her most notable 

books include a compilation of essays called The Caged Virgin: 

An Emancipation Proclamation for Women and Islam and an 

autobiography entitled Infidel. 

“As an activist, author and politician, we are pleased to award 

Ayaan Hirsi Ali with the Pursuit of Excellence Award,” said Paul 

Schiffman, Head of School of Adelson Educational Campus. 

“Ms. Hirsi Ali’s remarkable global leadership and passion for

Mid July, 2014. Palm Springs, CA. Doug Graham 

sits calmly for my interview. Having won the 

Silver Medal for Body Building at the 2005 

Gay Games, he is determined to return to 

Palm Springs with the Gold from next month’s 

Games in Cleveland. After four months of 

training with the legendary, professional body 

builder, Jean Pierre Fux, a disciplined diet, and 

his MIxeR 

background as a Bob Fosse dancer, Doug 

is poised to bring home the gold. 

“When do the Gay Games begin?” 

“The opening Ceremonies are on August ninth and the Games begin on the 

twelfth.” 

“This is your second time 

around for the Gay Games. 

What is different for you this 

time? 

“In 2005, I was very much 

compromised with AIDS and 

weighed only 125 pounds. 

Nine months later, I weighed 

in at 179 pounds and won
