Forensic psychology is the intersection between
psychology and the criminal justice system. It involves
understanding criminal law, in order to enable the
forensic psychologist to interact appropriately with
judges, lawyers and legal professionals. An important
aspect of forensic psychology is the ability to testify
in court, reformulating psychological findings into the
legal language of the courtroom, providing information
to legal personnel in a way that can be understood.
The theme of the conference “Forensic Clinical
Psychology as an Emerging Profession in India” is
indeed very relevant and important today. In recent
times the perpetrators of crime are increasingly aware
about their “right to remain silent” – a constitutional
guarantee to the individual’s liberty. In such scenario,
extraction of truth has become next to impossible
which demands the necessity of new forensic approach
using psychological tools to detect both the crime and
the criminal. This conference will provide a forum for
analyzing the new horizons of the clinical psychology
in the field of Forensic Science and its growing need in
the criminal justice administration.
