BIRTH THROUGH FIVE
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM
The district’s Birth Through Five Educational
Program provides families with information,
resources and networking to help them with
their children’s development and school
readiness.
PRE-KINDERGARTEN
PROGRAM
The district offers a curriculum based prekindergarten
program for 4 year olds, taught
by highly qualified degreed teachers. The
Pre-Kindergarten Program includes: field
trips, classroom computers, breakfast and
lunch.
EXTENDED DAY KINDERGARTEN
The district offers ExtendedDay Kindergarten
at all elementary buildings. The curriculum is
literacy-based and designed to improve the
child’s language and reading skills.
TECHNOLOGY
Students have access to state-of-the-art
technology, from laptop computers to
interactive whiteboards in the classroom.
We have high-speed internet connections
in every classroom and in our state-ofthe-art
media centers. Wireless laptop
computers and modern computer labs
provide important tools for student learning.
All students have email accounts and can
access their files from any computer.

ART, MUSIC,
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
A full program of art, music and physical
education is available in grades K-5.
The district’s middle and high school
programs produce outstanding artists,
musicians and athletes.
EXTENDED DAY PROGRAM
The District offers Before the Bell and
After the Bell programs at most of our
elementary schools.
YOUTH SPORTS PROGRAM
Offers elementary and middle school
students an opportunity to participate
in the following: flag football, girls and
boys basketball, floor hockey, soccer and
softball.
21ST CENTURY PROGRAM
This free after school program provides
academic and enrichment opportunities
for children. Ten district schools currently
provide this program.
SAGINAW / MICHIGAN
SCHOLARS
Saginaw is one of three Michigan school
districts selected to pilot the Michigan
Scholars Program, which is designed to
raise the academic bar for all high school
students. The program was designed
to encourage students to complete
challenging courses during high school
that will prepare them for quality jobs or
higher education after graduation.
THEME SCHOOLS
Arthur Eddy K-8 Academy
Designed around the MicroSociety ©
concept, which brings learning to life.
Students learn real life skills by working
in business ventures, government
agencies and cultural organizations,
all which are created and operated by
students.
Loomis Math, Science &
Technology Academy
A new state of the art facility with a
unique mission: to provide students in
grades Pre-K through 5 with the math
and science foundation they will need
to compete in today’s high-tech world.
The school is open to all students in
Saginaw County. There are no entrance
requirements.
Single Gender Education
Longfellow Elementary provides singlegender
education in grades PreK-5.
The schools feature separate classes
in the core subject areas for boys and
girls at each grade level, high academic
standards and expectations for all
students, a mandatory uniform policy
and required parental involvement. Male
and female students are integrated for
art, music, physical education, lunch
and after-school programs.
Zilwaukee International School
Zilwaukee PreK-8 School has an
International School Studies theme,
“Bridging Communities Worldwide.”
Students are introduced to various
countries and their cultures. Each grade
level researches a country and its global
concepts and students learn to think
critically about global issues.
CAREER/TECHNICAL
Saginaw Career Complex
High school juniors and seniors can
obtain practical, hands-on career
and technical education, including
work-based learning experiences,
through the 26 programs offered at the
Saginaw Career Complex. Coursework
ranges from business technology
to medical careers to engineering/
computer drafting and is designed to
prepare students for rewarding careers
and higher education. At the Saginaw
Career Complex, students learn for

MAGNET SCHOOLS
Handley School
Handley School’s Program for the
Creative and Academically Talented
(PCAT) is designed to meet the unique
educational needs of academically
talented students throughout the region
in grades K-5.
Saginaw Arts & Sciences
Academy
Offering full and half day middle and
high school programs for gifted/
talented students throughout the Tri-
Cities region. SASA provides high
quality academic and arts education to
students in grades 6-12. SASA is the
2005 Michigan winner of the Creative
Ticket School of Excellence Award.
