Lyn K. Slater, MSW, PhD, is Clinical Associate Professor at the Fordham University Graduate
School of Social Services and Adjunct Professor of Law at the Fordham University School of Law.
She currently co-teaches “Interdisciplinary Approaches to Child Abuse and Neglect” for
graduate-level law and social work students with a practicing attorney. She was the Supervising
Social Worker at the Family Advocacy Clinic, Fordham University School of Law for 10 years.
She has presented extensively at legal education conferences regarding inter-professional
practice. In previous positions, she served as director of the Child Sexual Abuse Project at
Lawyers for Children (NY); and Consultant, The Bronx Defenders and Legal Services of
New York.
Kara R. Finck, JD, is the Managing Attorney of the Family Defense Practice at The Bronx
Defenders, a nonprofit with over 140 criminal and civil attorneys, social workers, parent
advocates, investigators, administrative staff, and community programmers. She is also an
Adjunct Professor of Law at Fordham University School of Law. Past positions include:
Associate Planner at the Vera Institute of Justice, and at The Bronx Defenders as a Planner
overseeing community outreach and youth programs; law clerk for the Honorable Reginald
Lindsay in the Federal District Court of Massachusetts; Skadden Fellow at The Door’s Legal
Services Center representing young people in foster care.
