TENSION
16 sts x 19 rows to 10 cm over stocking st, using 5.50mm
needles. To work a 15cm tension square, use 5.50mm needles,
cast on 24 sts. Work 28 rows stocking st. Cast off loosely.
Check your tension carefully. If less sts use smaller needles,
if more sts use bigger needles.

GUERNSEY CAST ON METHOD
Leaving an end six times the length of the edge to be
cast on, put a slip knot on one needle. Double this length
back on itself so the free end hangs down where it meets

doubled end in your left hand and the
single strand from the ball in your right
hand. Wind the doubled end twice around
the thumb of your left hand. Insert the
needle up and under both the double
strands of yarn on your thumb, and take
the single strand around the needle to
make a stitch. Pull on the ends to bring
the knot up the needle. Bring the single
strand forward and over the needle to
make a stitch. Continue to make pairs of
stitches in this way, ending with a stitch
knitted from the thumb.
BACK
Using pair 4.50mm needles cast on 60 (64-68-
76-84-92) sts, using Guernsey Cast On method
(see above).
Knit 6 (6-6-8-8-8) rows garter st, inc 2 sts evenly
across last row … 62 (66-70-78-86-94) sts.
Change to pair 5.50mm Needles.
Next row: K2, * P2, K2, rep from * to end.
Next row: P2, * K2, P2, rep from * to end.
Rep last 2 rows once more, dec 2 sts evenly
across last row … 60 (64-68-76-84-92) sts.
Work in stocking st until work measures 20

Using pair 4.50mm needles cast on 30 (32-34-

on a safety pin for Left Front Band, knit to end

Using mattress st seam, join side and sleeve
seams. Sew in sleeves, placing centre of sleeve
to shoulder seams. Fold collar over onto RS so
that stocking st side is facing. Make 2 twisted
cords each approx 10 (10-10-15-15-15) cm
long. Knot one end to make a small tassel.
Attach other end of each twisted cord securely
to cast off edges of front bands as pictured.
Darn in ends.
