Summary of Active Youth for <strong>Term</strong> 1 <strong>2009</strong><br />
<strong>Term</strong> 1 for the Active Youth team at <strong>Sport</strong> <strong>Southland</strong> has been packed with exciting stadium sports days and promotion of the<br />
various programmes that we run. Here is a summary of the services provided by the Active Youth Team during <strong>Term</strong> 1 <strong>2009</strong><br />
• ILT Skills Based Programme - Waihopai, Windsor North<br />
• Assistance with coordinating the <strong>2009</strong> <strong>Southland</strong><br />
Primary Schools Athletics Championships<br />
• Physical Activity Leader (PALs) workshops - Sacred<br />
Heart, New River, Donovan, Invercargill Middle,<br />
Otatara, Windsor North, East Gore<br />
• Assistance with Longford Intermediate Triathlon<br />
• Presented at Tapanui Primary & Gore Main <strong>Sport</strong>s<br />
Coordinators meetings<br />
• Community <strong>Sport</strong>s Days - Fernworth, Rimu, Invercargill<br />
Middle, Otatara<br />
• Active Families Invercargill - 9 physical activity, nutrition,<br />
dental health session held (12 families with 14<br />
participants)<br />
• Active Families Ohai - 3 physical activity and nutrition<br />
sessions held, 5 families totaling 9 participants<br />
• Active Schools New Entrant Programme - St Patrick’s<br />
Invercargill, Sacred Heart, Donovan and Makarewa<br />
• Woodlands School Staff - Run Jump Throw workshop<br />
• James Hargest College Junior Campus American<br />
Exchange - Exchange students spent time at Stadium<br />
<strong>Southland</strong> learning wheelchair basketball, cricket and<br />
netball<br />
• Eastern <strong>Southland</strong> Oscar Holiday Programme (5 days)<br />
• Invercargill Children’s Day - Chaired the committee<br />
which organised a family event for 1100 children and<br />
families at <strong>Southland</strong> Boys High<br />
• Fonterra Kids in the City - the inaugural 2km fun run<br />
around Queen’s Park as part of the Community Trust of<br />
<strong>Southland</strong> Surf to City (180 participants)<br />
• AMP Kids Tryathlon - Roadshow to 26 <strong>Southland</strong><br />
schools with 610 children participating in the event on<br />
the day<br />
