Critical Incident <strong>Management</strong><br />

Emergency procedures to manage each identified risk<br />

1. Marshal provides assistance.<br />

2. Team manager alerted via speaker system.<br />

3. Passes child over to team manager.<br />

4. St John’s first aid provided<br />

1. Marshals act to support child and retrieve them.<br />

2. Track diverted to account for hazard.<br />

3. If retrieved, child brought to Admin.<br />

4. Team manager notified via sound system.<br />

5. First aid provided should it be necessary.<br />

6. Additional marshals positioned in high concern area.<br />

7. Other races continue with track altered.<br />

8. If not retrieved, police notified of potential drowning<br />

and scene of slipping left undisturbed. Racing will stop<br />

for the day.<br />

9. Team manager notified to inform school and follow<br />

internal school procedures from there.<br />

1. Manager suspects a child is lost.<br />

2. Gather zone group together.<br />

3. Undertake a count.<br />

4. Establish missing person/s.<br />

5. Determine any medical factors that may be<br />

contributing<br />

6. Question witnesses to establish the circumstances of<br />

loss and point last seen.<br />

7. Determine potential people who may have this child<br />

e.g. parents, supporting caregivers.<br />

8. Ensure safety of group and suitable supervision.<br />

9. Appoint preliminary searchers (adults), set a time<br />

period for their sweep, determine the initial area to be<br />

checked.<br />

10. Carry out a search of the immediate area, starting at<br />

the high risk and high probability places, and working<br />

back to low risk places. Remember to check toilets.


Call the child’s name, use whistles etc.<br />

11. If child still not found alert the police (111) and<br />

school’s Principal.<br />

12. Ensure group remains calm and is suitable<br />

supervision.<br />

13. Undertake a further area search based first on<br />

previous area (different people rechecking) then<br />

expand to include outside high risk zones, attractions<br />

that could draw a child etc.<br />

14. Get someone to begin to document what has<br />

happened.<br />

15. Inform police of everything necessary when they<br />

arrive.<br />
