13 <strong>Sept</strong> Bluff The Jacks<br />

Not entirely sure which walk or exactly where Wally and Shirley will lead you to – but you will have a<br />

very enjoyable walk.<br />

20 <strong>Sept</strong> Pebbly Hills TBC Ann & Dwyllis <br />

An permit application for usage of this area has been placed – if this is granted – then the walk will be<br />

in and around the Hedgehope area of Pebbly hills forest – part of Rayonier –Dunsdale will be<br />

alternative venue.<br />

27 Sep Lawrence – 8.30am – 6pm – booking Volunteer team<br />

Hart Brewery and Weatherstons daffodils. A place we visited three years ago. View 25 acres of<br />

uncovered daffodils and beautiful township of Lawrence. Cost $25pp bookings close 20 <strong>Sept</strong><br />

Oct 4 Grasmere/Waikiwi Joan<br />

Joan won’t divulge exactly where this walk will go – as it is complicated and takes numerous turns<br />

and tracks. You will probably get to see the back end of Waikiwi like you have never seen before.<br />

Oct 11 Mystery Trip – 8am – 6pm Booking! Ann<br />

The annual mystery trip where no one knows where you are going! The past has been very<br />

successful and the cost is $55pp including your lunch. Take your camera. Limited to 60 spaces.<br />

Solid shoes advised. NB start time. You can sleep on the bus if needed! Bookings close 4<br />

Oct 18 Dolamore park Ted R & Shirley<br />

This will be a spectacular time to visit this area – as the rhododendrons will be in bloom, the walking<br />

tracks will be spring fresh and the area should really give you that ‘<strong>Southland</strong>’ experience.<br />

Oct 25 Bain St – Russell Square Joan & Joy<br />

As part of ‘<strong>Seniors</strong>’ month please invite your friends to come along and be part of this walk. It would<br />

be great to have as many people as we can come along and enjoy what is a great walk through Kew<br />

bush.<br />

Oct 25 Wairaurahiri Jet – chance of a lifetime Ann<br />

7am – 6.30pm – depending on walk time<br />

Jet boat trip down a grade 3 river with a brilliant walk of 18kms (about 6 hrs) return on a flat track into<br />

the Percy Burn viaduct through absolutely magnificent beech forest. Cost is $210pp approx. $50 nonrefundable<br />

booking fee – limited to 10 places. Be in quick. This won’t happen again.<br />

Nov 1 Kingswood Bush James P<br />

Another great wee walk with a visit to the tulips that should still be in full bloom.<br />

Nov 8 Otautau Fin<br />

A walk from the western side of Otautau through to the McKenzie arboretum. Perfect to refresh your<br />

lungs and give you a great day out.<br />

Nov 15 20 th Celebrations – booking approx. $35pp Anniversary committee<br />

20 years ago <strong>Kiwi</strong><strong>Seniors</strong> started this walk group. To celebrate this milestone will be lunching at the<br />

Ascot. Please let all past walkers know the date to keep free. Bookings essential – however the<br />

cost is yet to be finalised. Keep an eye out for further information on the <strong>Sport</strong> <strong>Southland</strong> website or<br />

the folder on the bus. Data show of photo’s of the past. Bookings close 1 Nov<br />

Nov 22 Edenview Joy & Merle<br />

<strong>Walk</strong> around Edendale and the Kamahi bush area – very experienced leaders and you will be<br />

assured a good walk.<br />

Nov 29 Benmore – Cairn Peak area Ann & Arthur<br />

We are hoping to gain permission from the ICC to walk in this forest area – otherwise Ann has a<br />

backup plan for the same area.


Dec 6 Riverton – Christmas Party - booking Colin R, Arthur & Ann<br />

Exact walk yet to be confirmed – but if the weather is kind – lunch will be at Mores Reserve. Bring<br />

your Christmas lunch and goodies. Strawberries and Cream $5 – bookings essential dessert. Bus<br />

cost will be extra.<br />

Dec 13 Estuary – No Bus Peter & Lyn<br />

Meet at Stead Street Scout Den for a great walk. Direction of walk will be decided on the day.<br />

<strong>Jan</strong> 10 Queens Park – No Bus Volunteers<br />

Individuals can walk around the park at their leisure – perhaps bring your family neighbours or<br />

tourists and show them our beautiful park. You could have lunch at the Cheeky Llama or Pyramid<br />

café.<br />

<strong>Jan</strong> 17 Ferry Road Oreti Beach Fin<br />

Tide is perfect for this with low tide at 1143hrs. A great beach walk and I’m sure that the weather<br />

will be kind to us as well. Perhaps some shell collecting.<br />

<strong>Jan</strong> 23<br />

Planning meeting 1.30pm – BNZ rooms<br />

Come along and help us to plan the next few months of walks. This will include the weekend camp<br />

at Borland Lodge from 15-17 March. (Date has changed)<br />

<strong>Jan</strong> 24 Thornbury Shirley & Wally<br />

Shirley and Wally will show you this area and I think that they are planning lunch beside the<br />

Aparima River. Come along and be enjoy a great day and perhaps a visit to the vintage museum for<br />

those who are keen. Extra cost for museum – so bring coinage please just in case.<br />

<strong>Jan</strong> 31 Forest Hill Colin R<br />

Start at the Lochiel end and enjoy a great walk past the Weta caves, limestone bluffs and through<br />

to the Derek Turnbull track at Tussock Creek.<br />

Feb 14 Te Anau – 8.30am – 6pm booking TBC<br />

Pre notification that this walk will proceed during summer months – no snow and ice this time. Cost<br />

$25pp closes 7 Feb.<br />

Mar 15-17 Borland Lodge weekend camp - booking Ann & volunteers<br />

The venue is booked – the walks are planned and it’s just the fun to come. Approx cost $100 –<br />

this is not confirmed. Non refundable deposit of $25 due by Dec 19 – balance due by 8 March<br />

‣ 1 October – the relaunch of the Nans Pops and Tots and Pram walks will take place. Watch for details as it<br />

would be great to have you involved.<br />

‣ 2 October – BNZ Summer <strong>Walk</strong>s Series - 10am or 6.30pm – meet at All Saints Church – Waihopai Bridge<br />

North Rd<br />

‣ Let’s try to increase our membership numbers. Word of mouth is our best avenue – so talk to your friends,<br />

neighbours and tell them about the fantastic time that we have and the fabulous locations that we visit plus<br />

the benefits of being part of the group. Health and fitness included.<br />

‣ No photos on this walklist – saving them for the 20 th celebrations <br />

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:<br />

All walkers to meet by 9.15 am at the STADIUM SOUTHLAND CAR PARK. Buses will leave at 9.30am SHARP unless<br />

otherwise stated. ETR (estimated time of return) about 1-2.30pm unless stated. (Buses are required for school runs<br />

during the school term)<br />

Bring a campstool, thermos (or drink bottles and sun block in the hot weather), food, comfortable shoes, water proof<br />

jacket and warm clothing, these can all be left on the bus whilst walking.<br />

Remember to bring coin change for your bus fare. Bus fares usually range from $5 to $15 APPROX.<br />

Compulsory for you all to enjoy your walks! <strong>Sport</strong> <strong>Southland</strong> really enjoys any feedback.<br />
