Purpose of Position:<br />
The Education and Fundamental Skills Advisor is responsible for:<br />
• Promoting the importance of physical activity and fundamental skills (FMS) development for<br />
young children in both early childhood settings and primary schools to develop healthy lifestyle<br />
habits.<br />
• Coordinating and delivering Sport Otago’s Active Movement programme in the Central Otago<br />
area.<br />
• Acting as a facilitator, enabler, and initiator of sport and physical activity in Central Otago<br />
Primary Schools through the development, implementation and facilitation of programmes and<br />
initiatives.<br />

Create strong links with Central Otago Primary Schools Sports<br />
Association and individual primary schools in Central Otago to<br />
encourage and facilitate increased physical activity levels in<br />
children through the instruction, training, and demonstration of<br />
FMS and sport specific skills.<br />
Through liaison with Regional Sports Organisations (RSOs),<br />
facilitate the delivery of their sports programmes into primary<br />
schools and provide training for primary school teachers.<br />
In conjunction with Sport Otago’s Active Movement<br />
Coordinator, provide expertise and leadership to the early<br />
childhood sector, including post natal and pre-school groups,<br />
through the provision of information, advice, and training<br />
opportunities.<br />
Assist the Sport Central Coordinator – Sport and Education in<br />
development and delivery of events that target primary schoolaged<br />
children in the development and implementation of events<br />
that increase the levels of physical activity in the community.<br />
Work closely and develop key contacts with primary schools,<br />
early childhood providers, RSOs, and community groups.<br />
Establish close working relationships with Sport Otago’s Active<br />
Movement Advisor and Sport Otago’s Community and Schools<br />
Advisors.
Liaise closely with local authorities, funders, and key<br />
recreational facilities.<br />
Contribute to creating positive awareness of Sport Central’s<br />
FMS programmes and physical activity options within the<br />
community.<br />
Develop media links to ensure effective advocacy messages<br />
and coverage of Sport Central FMS, sport and physical activity<br />
programmes, and other community based physical activity<br />
options.<br />

Provide expertise/advice on sport and community based<br />
physical activities to Local Authorities, funding agencies, and<br />
key decision-makers within the Central Otago region.<br />
Effectively advocate for initiatives and principles that are<br />
consistent with Sport Central’s aims and objectives.<br />
Accurately maintain management plan, required records, and<br />
reports.<br />
Provide required monthly reports against Key Performance<br />
Indicators to Sport Central Coordinator – Sport and Education,<br />
Sport Otago Development and Capability Manager, and Sport<br />
Otago Chief Executive.<br />
Demonstrate and implement best practice processes and<br />
procedures for Sport Central programmes and initiatives.<br />
Encourage others to develop best practice processes and<br />
systems for the delivery of community and workplace based<br />
physical activity programmes.<br />
Person Specification:<br />
• Knowledge of the sport, education (early childhood and primary school), and recreation sectors<br />
in Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes districts.<br />
• Experience in the development, delivery, and teaching of programmes and initiatives.<br />
• Have exceptional communication, presentation, and inter-personal skills.<br />
• Have excellent time management and organisational ability.<br />
• Have the ability to motivate and have empathy with volunteers.<br />
• Have the ability to create strong community networks.<br />
• Have a high level of initiative.<br />
• Be able to work flexible hours.<br />
• Be experienced in dealing with the media.<br />
