YOUNG GUNS | Tasmania’s Under 18 Campaign Begins The Tasmania Under 18 team played its first game of the 2011 campaign last week, hosting top of the ladder TAC team the Sandringham Dragons at Bellerive Oval last Saturday. Damon SMITH Burnie Dockers The second quarter saw a continuation of dominant play from Tasmania, with excellent backline play from Jobi Harper, Henry Schade and Trad Duggan and outstanding rebounding running from Dylan Riley. Tasmania’s ferocious attack on the ball was a feature, winning clearances and creating opportunities inside 50. Tall forwards Julian Dobosz and Larry Owen were getting plenty of service and small forwards Martyn Allison and Bradley Cox-Goodyer capitalised on ground level crumbing chances also. FOLLOWERS: 37. Jake JENKINS Clarence After recording a 100-plus point loss in game 1 last year, the players were acutely aware o f the challenge that lay before them. The team started very well, led by midfielders John McKenzie and Daniel Fox, jumping to a 32 point lead at quarter time, with the defence intact and keeping Sandringham goalless. The second half saw Sandringham not score its first goal until well into the third quarter, with the game well and truly over at that point in time. Tasmania was impressive throughout, recording a 73 point victory.
