THE WEEK THAT WAS | Review of last weeks games
Lauderdale Bombers made a statement in Round 8 of the Wrest Point State League. A big
one at that.
Coming off a 185 point win and packed with stars
– you’d be forgiven if you thought Glenorchy was
headed to Lauderdale Oval for a big win. But, the
Bombers were magnificent. 14 goals to 8 after
quarter time setting up the 30 point win – and
putting the top 6 of the Wrest Point State League on
notice, with percentage now the only thing keeping
Lauderdale outside of the top half of the competition.
Hobart will be regretting taking its foot off the pedal
against North Hobart. After controlling the match
across 4 quarters the game came down to the final
minutes. Zeke Gardam won the match with a kick on
goal less than 2 minutes before the final siren. The
win was a crucial one for the Demons heading into
the mid season break – with a huge match against
Launceston at Windsor Park coming up in Round 9
after the long weekend break.
Clarence’s season continues to tick along nicely,
after the Roos secured another big win – this time
at the hands of Devonport. Mitch Williamson again
showed why he’s become one of the recruits of the
season kicking 6 goals – with Cameron Thurley
AGAIN named best on ground. The Northern
Magpies season continues to go from bad to
worse – but in some positive news, will play South
Launceston next round – the only team they have
defeated this season.
Speaking of South, the Bulldogs attempt to win a
game continues to be mission impossible after they
copped another hiding – Burnie thrashing the hosts
at Youngtown. The Dockers continue to fly under
the radar this season, with Brent Plant’s men sitting
nicely in 4th, but, will be challenged by an up and
coming Lauderdale outfit next round.
And, who is going to beat Launceston? The Blues
were once again tested, this time against North
Launceston. But the boys from Windsor Park had
all the answers, and are almost certain to finish this
season on top of the table. North Launceston’s
inconsistency continues to haunt them – and its
biggest test of the season to date will come next
round when they travel to the TCA Ground to meet
Hobart.
BURNING QUESTIONS:
Is Lauderdale going to make its first TSL finals
series? All the evidence suggests it might!
Can South Launceston turn the tables on Devonport
and get their first win for 2011?
