STATE OF AFFAIRS | Volunteer service recognised
Glenorchy Football Club’s Barry Hassett has
been named the inaugural Wrest Point State
League Volunteer of the Year. Hassett has had
a 43-year association with his favourite club and
was presented with his certificate and dinner
voucher and wine from Ristorante Da Angelo.
Glenorchy Football Club describe Barry as a real
stalwart of the club, as a board member and
sub-committee member. His club says that he
does an unbelievable amount of work for them,
seven days a week. He’s at the club from 7.30
most mornings and eliminates a lot of work in the
football department. Barry is a life member of the
club and the club believes that he is a wonderful
role model and a totally deserving recipient of this
prestigious award.
Volunteers are vital to the success of football in
Tasmania and are an integral part of the make-up
of clubs and their culture. Certainly, the staff and
management at AFL Tasmania appreciate the
efforts of volunteers and the passion they have
for their own clubs and football. We hope that this
award will highlight each club’s appreciation of
the people behind the success of clubs, and what
they bring to each community.
Acknowledgement to the other nominees for
their hard work and dedication to their clubs as
recognised within the nomination forms submitted.
