GRASS ROOTS | Roos developing future seniors When the TSL commenced in 2009, AFL Tasmania gave each of the 10 clubs the opportunity and financial support to work with a development zone. Two of the performance indicators for each club were Talent Identification and Participation. The Clarence Football Club with AFL Tasmania agreed on a club development plan with Talent Identification as a priority. Our development zone includes Brighton, Lindisfarne and Clarence junior football clubs. It is our aim that the 50-60 players involved each year strive to be the best they can be whether that be a state underage representative, an AFL draftee, a quality regional league player or to represent Clarence in the TSL for many years to come. The Clarence Football Club Talent Identification Program was run over 6 weeks including 5 training sessions, a family BBQ and also the two days of games. The five training sessions were held with 2 at Brighton and 2 at Kangaroo Bay with the final session and family BBQ held at Bellerive. Within the development squads we had a wide area represented, with players coming from all outskirts of our zone. We provided buses through the Bridgewater PCYC for sessions out to Pontville and to bring the Brighton boys over to the Eastern Shore. Throughout the series we used a wide range of resources including: • We provided the players with quality coaches - Cameron Thurley, Brennan Savage, Matthew Geappen and Cameron Blight. • Game Plan – A game plan handed to the players detailing how the style of play – fast, high risk football. • Video Teaching. • Statistical feedback at each break, provided by our Development Officers: Sean Tisdale, Josh Green and Aaron Tuxworth. • Recovery Assistance and comprehensive Report on progress. To conclude our Talent Identification series we held a function for all parents and players involved at our home game against North Launceston. As part of our development series tradition the players in the Under 15 development side were presented their jumpers to keep by the Clarence Senior playing group. The RM Worbey CFC Academy for our best 14s, 15s and 16s players was also announced at the function with the group of 25 players recognised for their achievements in the development program so far. RM Worbey Constructions has sponsored the Academy Program for the last 2 years. We see that the talented young players throughout our zone will ensure that Clarence continues to succeed at state level. It is important that we provide these players with quality learning opportunities and create an environment that they and also their families will embrace. TASSIE TIPSTERS | Blues breathe life into Premiership Round 15 was another exciting week for RACT Footy Tipping with Launceston showing the TSL premiership is not a mere formality by delivering Clarence’s first defeat of 2010. Lauderdale chalked up its third straight win while handing Hobart its seventh consecutive loss at the TCA Ground. This week’s winner, Mr Cameron Brown of Mt Stuart, tipped 5 out of 5 and has won the weekly prize of $250 and a TOTE Sport Radio KB Sherrin.
