CLUB NOTES | Round 4 Optus Hobart Tigers - 0400 690 877 President: Philip Baker Senior Coach: Graeme Fox Founded - Cananore 1908, Hobart 1944 State Premierships - 1909,10,11,13,21,2 2,25,26,27,31,59,90 www.hobartfc.com.au HFC Children’s Ward Visit On the 20th of April, HFC players Matt Cleary and Jake Briggs accompanied ‘Benny’, the Club mascot, and naming rights sponsor ‘yes Optus’ (Optus Franchisee Owners Robert & Elizabeth Elliott) on a visit to the Children’s ward of the Royal Hobart Hospital. The group delivered Cadbury Easter eggs and ‘yes Optus’ yo-yos, pens and hats to the children and their families. Women’s Football Tomorrow is the first game for the HFC Women’s side, they take on Launceston at Windsor Park starting at 12 noon. The girls would love your support on the road to Launceston but if you don’t feel like heading to Launceston then round two (next Sunday) is down here against Clarence. An evening with Mark Maclure 19th May – Former Carlton Captain Mark Maclure will be our guest in the Clubrooms He made his senior VFL debut midway through the 1974 season against Geelong. He stayed with the Blues for an impressive thirteen seasons during which he played 243 games and kicked 327 goals. Some of this greatest career achievements included representing Victoria, and heading Carlton’s goal kicking list twice. He was also Carlton’s premiership centre half forward in their premiership teams of 1979, 1981 and 1982. He portrayed a sometimes fearsome physical presence towards opponents but was ferociously protective of smaller team mates in the forward lines. Maclure was nameD the Blues captain for the season of 1986 season but it was not a successful year for him as he was troubled by injuries. The recovered enough to take the Blues into a finals campaign but it proved not to be successful as they lost to Hawthorn in the Grand Final that year. He retired shortly afterwards. These days, Mark works as an expert football commentator for ABC radio, a panellist on AFL 360 and is also the General Manager of Valvoline Car Care. 12

Any win is a good win but when it happens away from home and on the road it makes it all the better. Congratulations to Sean MacKay for his best on ground performance and to Ryan Wiggins for kicking 4 goals on debut. Auskick has started under the guidance of Colts players, Stuart Cook and Jake King. Last year we were awarded the Auskick centre of southern Tasmania with over 50 registrations.
