As this year comes to an end and our community celebrates the holiday season, we welcome you to <strong>The</strong><br />
<strong>Spectrum</strong>’s December 2011 edition.<br />
<strong>The</strong> city of Redwood City has been provid<strong>in</strong>g opportunities for our community to gather <strong>in</strong><br />
neighborhood parks and community facilities, and now they have partnered with local bus<strong>in</strong>esses like<br />
Redwood General Tire to br<strong>in</strong>g a skat<strong>in</strong>g r<strong>in</strong>k to our “community liv<strong>in</strong>g room” on the downtown square.<br />
Contribut<strong>in</strong>g writer Julie McCoy will tell you about all of the activities there and <strong>in</strong>troduce you to the Ice<br />
Oasis, which is a year-round ice skat<strong>in</strong>g r<strong>in</strong>k <strong>in</strong> the Friendly Acres neighborhood.<br />
We also have stories on the recent premiere of a Redwood City–based film and an <strong>in</strong>troduction to our<br />
new police chief.<br />
Publisher Steve Penna checks out his own predictions from the Nov. 8 election <strong>in</strong> his column, “As I Was<br />
Say<strong>in</strong>g….” He also writes about who will be our next mayor and the new police chief.<br />
As <strong>in</strong> all communities, bus<strong>in</strong>esses are an important component of Redwood City because they create<br />
sales tax revenues that contribute to our overall city budget while provid<strong>in</strong>g much-needed services for<br />
our community. In the spirit of that, and the holiday season, we encourage you, our readers, to support<br />
our valuable <strong>Spectrum</strong> advertisers by us<strong>in</strong>g their services when you are out shopp<strong>in</strong>g, d<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g or enjoy<strong>in</strong>g<br />
yourself <strong>in</strong> our community with friends and family. Many of them have special offers for you to cut out<br />
and present, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g discounts on services, food and beverages, so please take the time to look over<br />
their ads this month and use their coupons and discounts.<br />

We also have a special advertis<strong>in</strong>g section highlight<strong>in</strong>g bus<strong>in</strong>esses <strong>in</strong> the Ma<strong>in</strong> Street area. If you<br />
have not visited that area lately, you will like the changes and activities there and will def<strong>in</strong>itely f<strong>in</strong>d<br />
someth<strong>in</strong>g to do.<br />
