On April 13 at 1 p.m., the San Mateo County
History Museum will present the Burlingame
Historical Society’s Joanne Garrison, who
will give a talk, “There Was Something About
Agnes,” describing the life of Agnes Poett,
who participated in the founding of San Mateo,
Burlingame and Hillsborough. Early deaths,
disasters, murder and unusual romances are
all part of this thrice-married Chilean beauty’s
remarkable life story. Garrison is author of the
book Burlingame Centennial: 1908–2008.
A Conversation With Rose Jacobs Gibson
The San Mateo County History Museum will
present a conversation with Rose Jacobs Gibson
at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 23. Jacobs Gibson
will participate in a question-and-answer session
with Museum Director Mitch Postel. The public
is invited to attend and join in this conversation
that is part of Women’s History Month. Jacobs
Gibson, who retired from office in 2012, became
the first African American member of the San
Mateo County Board of Supervisors. Questions
will explore her early life, her experience as an
East Palo Alto city councilwoman and her years
as a supervisor. The program is free with the price
of admission to the museum: $5 for adults and $3
for seniors and students. This program is part of
the museum’s “Courthouse Docket” series and is
This totally upbeat musical tells the story of
Delta Nu sorority sister Elle Woods. Don’t let
this seemingly ditsy fashionista fool you; this
girl is totally focused, smarter than she seems,
and doesn’t take “no” for an answer. So when
her boyfriend dumps her for someone “more
serious,” Elle sets out to win him back by putting
down the credit card and hitting the books. Ready
to revamp her image, Elle, with her Chihuahua
Bruiser, goes where no Delta Nu has gone before:
Harvard Law School! Along the way, our heroine
proves that being yourself and going after what
you want never goes out of style.
