The first two months of the year seem to have gone by extremely fast. We hope you
will take some time to read the March 2013 edition of The Spectrum Magazine that
you hold in your hands now.
Redwood City is known for many things: Climate Best by Government Test, a
Sequoia High School graduate named “Dolby” and our courthouse having been
filmed in the hit movie Mrs. Doubtfire, among others. This month, contributing writer Julie
McCoy has two feature stories that capture community spirit and youth development and will
give Redwood City something else to be known for. Our cover story is on the Redwood City
Martial Arts organization and how it is fast becoming a world-class training facility for our
youth.
The other profile is on the Sequoia High School Stampede, which is fast becoming one of
the major events in our community. It is not only a healthy and fun activity for both participants
and spectators, but it also raises much-needed funds for the high school athletic programs.
As with all organizations, the Redwood City–San Mateo County Chamber of Commerce is
going through some changes. In Publisher Steve Penna’s column, “As I Was Saying…,” he
discusses those changes, his recent award from the organization and his thoughts about
community organizations and the need to recruit new members.
We also bring you our regular features on senior activities, items of community interest,
cultural and entertainment events, insurance tips from Hector Flamenco, information from the
Redwood City School District and the popular feature “A Minute With.”
