Proclaiming Spectrum Magazine owner and publisher Steve Penna “Mr. Redwood City,” state Sen. Jerry Hill recognized the contribution of business to education as Penna received
the Redwood City chamber’s Golden Apple Award this year for his commitment to local education at the Redwood City–San Mateo County Chamber of Commerce 115th Annual
Dinner at Sofitel Hotel.
The Golden Apple recognizes people in the business community who strive to make a difference in city schools. Nominated by Jo-Ann Sockolov, executive director of the Redwood City
Education Foundation, Penna was recognized not only for the support he has given to the RCEF, but also for his work with many organizations “as a key partner in advancing
opportunities for all the students of Redwood City’s school districts.”
“Golden Apple Award recipient Steve Penna exemplifies what great partnerships with the business community can accomplish,” said County Supervisor Don Horsley, who also
attended the sold-out event.
Other awards of the night included “Woman of the Year” to Lourdes Carini from San Mateo Credit Union and “Persons of the Year” to Greg Greenway, executive director of the
Seaport Industrial Association, and Jim Bigelow, owner of Bay Area Transportation and Housing Associates.
