Lumagen Radiance XD, XE, XS, Mini 3D
Quick Start Guide
The Lumagen Radiance processors provide controls to calibrate 11 or 21 point grayscale. They also
provide controls to calibrate the standard CMS primary and secondary color points, or to calibrate a 125
point 5x5x5 3D cube lookup table (LUT) for SMPTE video level signals.
Recommended CalMAN Workflows:

HT Advanced or SI Advanced to optimize panel or projector Picture controls.
HT Advanced or SI Advanced to calibrate Radiance grayscale RGB balance and standard CMS, or
Color Cube or CalMAN Studio to calibrate Radiance grayscale RGB balance and 3D LUT.
Required Radiance Firmware:

Any recent version for grayscale and standard CMS calibration.
091112, or later, for 3D LUT calibration
Radiance Control Connection:

DB-9 female to DB-9 female null-modem RS-232 cable (pin2 - pin3, pin3 - pin2)
Make sure the Radiance RS-232 Echo is On
o Menu > Other > I/O Setup > RS-232 Setup > Echo: On
Radiance Setup Process:
To connect a Radiance for grayscale calibration and standard CMS primary/secondary calibration:
1. Connect the Radiance to the CalMAN computer with the specified serial cable.
2. In the Radiance menu, set the 3D Color Gamut Options to 8 Points.
o Menu > Output > CMS’s > CMSx > Color Gamut > Options > Points
3. In CalMAN, under “Find Meter,” select “Lumagen – Radiance CMS,” then Connect.
To equalize CMS luminance levels:
1. On the Advanced workflow CMS Adjust page, first click the Read Series button to measure the
performance of the primary and secondary colors.
2. Click through the color level select tabs for the six primary and secondary to note which color
has the lowest DeltaL.
3. Click the Read Continuous button and equally decrease the Radiance CMS White Level SubR,
SubG, and SubG controls to increase the DeltaL measurement for the lowest color to the 0 point
on the DeltaL chart.
To connect a Radiance for grayscale calibration and 125 point 3D LUT calibration:
1. Connect the Radiance to the CalMAN computer with the specified serial cable.
2. A USB to Serial adapter, if used, needs to include a data buffer, such as the certified adapter
available on the SpectraCal web site.
o http://store.spectracal.com/calman-certified-usb-hub-237.html

3. In the Radiance menu, set the 3D Color Gamut Options to 125 Points.
o Menu > Output > CMS’s > CMSx > Color Gamut > Options > Points
4. In the CalMAN Display Control panel, select “Lumagen – Radiance 3D LUT,” then Connect.
