Chapter 8: Setting Up the Samples Before you import the samples, you must restore the databases and create a named user who has Select permissions for the database tables. You must also create data source connections to the samples databases. To use the deployment tool, you must have execute permissions for the Administration secured function. Steps 1. Copy the Cognos_Samples.zip file from the crn_location/webcontent/samples/content directory to the directory where your deployment archives are saved. The default location is crn_location/deployment. The location in which deployment archives are saved is set in the configuration tool. For information about changing the location, see the configuration tool online help. 2. Open Cognos Connection. 3. On the toolbar, click Deployment. 4. Click the Import tab. 5. On the toolbar, click the new import button. The New Import wizard appears 6. In the Deployment archive box, click Cognos_Samples and click Next. 7. If you want, type a description and screen tip for the deployment specification, select the folder where you want to save it, and then click Next. 8. In the Public folders content list, select the check box for the GO Sales and Retailers package. 9. If you do not want users to access the sample package and its entries, select the check box in the Disable after import column. This is useful when you want to test the reports before you make them available in the target environment. 10. Click Next. 11. In the Specify the general options page, click Next. The summary information appears. Tip: If you want to change information, click Back and follow the instructions. 12. Click Import Now. ReportNet imports the sample package. This may take a few minutes. 13. When the import is done, click Finish. You can now use the sample package to create reports in Report Studio and Query Studio. You can also run the sample reports that are available on the Public Folders tab in the portal. Remove the Samples from ReportNet You can delete the packages on which the samples are based after you finish using the sample reports to learn about ReportNet and Framework Manager. This permanently removes the samples from the content store. Steps 1. Open Cognos Connection. 2. Click the Public Folders tab. 3. Select the check box for the GO Sales and Retailers sample package. 4. Click the delete button on the toolbar, and click OK. Chapter 8: Setting Up the Samples Sample Model The sample model provided with ReportNet is named gosales_goretailers and refers to the samples databases gosl and gort. The model is designed for use in Framework Manager and is divided in the following views: • a database view • a presentation view • summary queries Database View The query subjects in the database view correlate directly with the tables in the gort and gosl databases. The database view • defines relationships between database query subjects • renames objects to reflect their business use • modifies the SQL in some query subjects to handle language requirements Presentation View The presentation view defines model query subjects that are formed from the database query subjects in the database view. The model query subjects in the presentation view are organized to reflect a logical use based on a business case. For example, product line, product type, and product are presented as items in a single subject. Because relationships are defined in the database view, there are no explicit relationships between any of the model query subjects. Model query subjects are the only part of the published package visible to the report author. Summary Queries The model includes two summary queries that combine detail information into monthly values that other query subjects can use. Products by month is a query that combines the quantity of products sold into monthly periods. Data from this query is compared to data in the Product forecasts model query subject. Product forecasts is generated from the relationship between Products by month and Product forecasts. Revenue by month is a query that combines the revenue for products, retailers, and sales staff. Data from this query is compared to data in the Sales targets model query subject. Sales targets, is generated from the relationship between Sales target and Revenue by month.
