Pittsburgh
Cinema World unveiled its eight-screen
Cranberry Mall May 24, giving the chain 163
screens in 53 locations, including its Pittsburgh-leading
four drive-ins. The new 1,787-
seat complex will feature state-of-the-art projection
and sound equipment, wall-to-wall
screens and computerized systems for ticket
and concession sales.
On May 19, Mike Cardone opened his
Mini-Cinemas Plaza II in the Bloomfield neighborhood.
He now operates nine screens at
five locations in the Pittsburgh area He will
show art films in one of the new houses and
first-runs in the other, Pittsburgh already has
three art theatres the Pittsburgh Playhouse,
Filmmakers at the Fulton, and Cinema
World.
Philadelphia
Santikos Communications of San Antonio
has signed a lease to operate Philly's first 14-
screen theatre Ground will be broken this fall
in the $300 million Liberty Landing mixed-use
development on the Philadelphia waterfront.
A joint venture of the Hampton Real Estate
Group of Allentown and the Sheet Metal
Workers' Union is developing the complex,
which will involve a 300-room Radisson Hotel,
140 high-rise residential condominium
