Ira Deutchman, who resigned as Cinecom's president of marketing and distribution in January, has announced his own production and marketing company, to be called The Deutchman Co. Actual movie production is a ways off, Deutchman says, but the company will be involved in the marketing of Miramax's "sex, lies and videotapes" and Sony's "Best of the Best." A distribution deal has been signed between Triax Entertainment Group and Front Row Pictures, with Triax agreeing to release up to 13 First Run productions over the next three years. An initial seven-film slate budgeted at nearly S30 million has been announced, with all movies falling into the thriller or action genre England's only studio devoted to feature-lenghted animation — Hollywood Road Productions — has begun production on "F.R.O.7." about a man-sized frog working as a French secret agent. Production is expected to take two years, distribution is pending. PERSONNEL A promotion has been announced for Robert A. Schein of Orion Pictures. Now possessing the title senior vice president/general sales manager, Schein will personally assist executive vice president of sales and distribution Buddy Golden in all areas of sales and distribution. Schein will work out of Orion's New York offices. Mel Meyers, most recently assistant division manager for New Line Cinema's Midwest division, has moved east and is now vice president and Eastern division manager for New Line. Meyers, a 22-year distribution veteran, will concentrate primarly on the New York sales area. Field publicity and promotions for all Samuel Goldwyn Company releases will now be handled by Michelle Abbrecht, who was recently promoted to the position of field operations manager of publicity. She has been with the company since ACQUISITIONS MGM/UA: "True Love," a drama that won the grand prize in dramatic competition at the United States Film Festival. It studies the budding romance between two Italian- Americans living in the Bronx, and MGM UA is planning a late-summer or tall irl(-ase.
