REMODELING
PROJECT:
WASHINGTON THEATRE GAINS A NEW FACE
Extensive Exterior and Interior
Remodeling and Redecorating
Create a Completely Modern Showcase in the Everett
by DAVID A. BALLARD
Vt hen the EVERETT THEATRE ill Everett,
Wash., reopened recently after completion
of a major remodeling program, patrons of
the Evergreen Theatres Corp. showhouse
could hardly believe that they were in the
same theatre. Seldom has a more ambitious
refurbishing job been undertaken on any
theatre, and the results were breathtaking.
Up to $100,000 were spent on the house
which seats 980 and draws a general patronage
from a population of about 75,000.
It is a downtown B location on a 75x120-
foot lot on a major city thoroughfare.
which seems spacious because of the extensive
use of glass. The foyer, decorated in
a warm gray tone, is dominated by a beautiful,
new custom-made concession bar or
etched aluminum floral design. It i
located directly in front of the glass door
t
A V-SHAPED MARQUEE
From the modern, unusual box office to
the relocated and enlarged exits, the house
is entirely new. A striking display effect is
achieved by the new marquee and brilliantly
lighted reader boards which extend over
the sidewalk in a shallow V with attraction
copy on each side which can thus be seen
from both directions. Colorful red and
green plastic letters are used.
The boxoffice and the facade are done in
beautiful reddish-brown marble and glass,
with large Aluminex display frames, 12 '/2
x 5 feet each, lighted from all four sides.
Boxoffice drapes of original design enhance
its attractiveness. The entrance doors are
all glass, and lead into a fairly small foyer
This view shows the attractive foyer, which, though small, appears spacious due to the extensive use
glass. The concession bar is located directly in front of the doors for maximum attention, and
enhanced by an etched aluminum design and candy-striped pillars.
