10. Chain of Command:<br />

Patient problems: staff nurse followed by the unit charge nurse.<br />

Student problems: <strong>Clinical</strong> Manager or Director followed by <strong>Mary</strong> <strong>Jo</strong> <strong>Selg</strong>, <strong>Clinical</strong><br />

<strong>Education</strong> Coordinator.<br />

Feedback from staff regarding student performance is strictly confidential.<br />

All staff concerns should be directed to the <strong>Clinical</strong> Manager or Director.<br />

Students:<br />

1. Orientation:<br />

Contact the charge nurse on the units where your students will be placed to arrange time to<br />

orient them to the department and discuss student expectations and objectives and how charge<br />

nurse makes student assignment to patients at least two weeks prior to the time that the students<br />

will be in the specific department.<br />

Provide the department and <strong>Clinical</strong> <strong>Education</strong> <strong>with</strong> a list of student names and objectives for the<br />

clinical experience.<br />

Instructors are responsible for orienting students to Overlake Hospital forms, procedures, and<br />

equipment.<br />

Orient students to BGM, Omnicell Automated Medication System, and Bloodbourne Pathogens prior to<br />

caring for patients. REQUIRED PAPERWORK FOR MEDITECH/O<strong>MN</strong>ICELL ACCESS MUST BE<br />

TO CLINICAL EDUCATION TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO CLINICAL.<br />

Orientation resources are found in the New Instructor Manual or in <strong>Clinical</strong> <strong>Education</strong>.<br />

2. Confidentiality:<br />

Orient all students to Confidentiality (self-learning module in notebook. Video available through<br />

<strong>Clinical</strong> <strong>Education</strong>).<br />

Students must sign Overlake Hospital’s Confidentiality Agreement and Health Care Coverage<br />

agreement. Return to <strong>Clinical</strong> <strong>Education</strong> TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO CLINICAL EXPERIENCE.<br />

Instruct students to secure patient charts and protect patient names by returning charts closed<br />

and upside down to modules.<br />

3. Student and Instructor Identification and Parking:<br />

Please collect student ID and return to Security at the end of the rotation.<br />

For security reasons, all students and instructors must have an Overlake Hospital picture I.D.<br />

when they are on campus for clinical or clinical preparation. With this ID students & instructors<br />

may park free in the East Parking Garage located across the street from the 1199 116 th Ave.<br />

N.E. building <strong>with</strong> overflow parking on the 8 th floor of the North Parking Garage.<br />

Students are urged to carpool.<br />

To obtain Overlake ID, please provide the following information to the Security Department:<br />

1. Name of the instructor<br />

2. Student’s name<br />

3. Department the student will be assigned to<br />

4. Dates of the student’s assignment at the hospital.<br />

5. License plate number of car (students can bring to Security when getting ID)<br />

The Security Office is located in Room D of the Overlake Hospital Medical Center Conference<br />

Center, Main Floor of the West Parking Garage.<br />

Security Hours for picture ID are Monday through Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. or as Security<br />

Officers are available. To send your student information or if you need to make different<br />

arrangements, please contact Security directly.<br />
