Tasks<br />
– Internal communication<br />
Press relations spokespersons deal with internal communication.<br />
They need to know what other people in the organisation<br />
want to communicate. They develop communication<br />
strategies.<br />
– Gathering and providing information<br />
Spokespersons need excellent knowledge<br />
of the organisation itself.<br />
– Establishing ties and communicating<br />
Enhancing and maintaining ties with the press and with journalists.<br />
Spokespeople have to be strong in communications<br />
and be able to deal with diffi cult questions adeptly.<br />
– Organising communication<br />
Communication in public relations: Spokespersons provide<br />
support during the organisation of press conferences and<br />
point journalists to the correct contacts in the organisation.<br />
They are the fi rst point-of-contact within the press, they develop<br />
and support PR and marketing campaigns. They develop<br />
communication plans and put them into action with the support<br />
of colleagues.<br />
Competences<br />
– Articulate, often also in English (passive and active)<br />
and, depending on the company, other languages<br />
– Presentation skills, self-confi dent manner and attitude<br />
– Analytical thinking (not only able to analyse but able to<br />
react quick-wittedly), good diplomatic and political instincts<br />
– Organisational knowledge (‘all-rounder’, knows a lot about<br />
many topics, is able to gather information quickly)<br />
– Courage and ability to take the initiative<br />
1. Organisation management:<br />
Establishing organisational structures inside and outside<br />
the company, e. g. in quality management, temporary<br />
company activities, gathering staff proposals for improvements<br />
in the company, internal accident prevention,<br />
monitoring internal structural measures<br />
2. Event management:<br />
Developing, planning, organising and conducting conferences,<br />
qualifi cations, trade fairs, staff events etc., putting<br />
together teams for and hosting events, documentation,<br />
evaluation, public and media relations<br />
3. Knowledge / qualifi cations management<br />
Recording qualifi cation and further training requirements,<br />
organising further training and qualifi cation programmes,<br />
carrying-out the internal process for proposing improvements,<br />
developing internal instructional programmes,<br />
co-developing and coordinating internal and external networks<br />
4 Disability management<br />
Supporting and organising those directly involved in internal<br />
integration management, developing and supporting<br />
internal health and safety management, adviser in the<br />
area of health promotion and prevention, maintaining the<br />
ties to professional and trade organisations and health insurance<br />
companies, employer’s representatives on administrative<br />
boards of health insurance companies, internal<br />
counselling on addictions, internal social work, confl ict<br />
counselling, mediation.<br />
The experiences with our competence assessment procedure<br />
indicate that the starting point of any validation of informal<br />
knowledge has to be the individual’s specifi c practical knowledge<br />
about a task; moreover, it has to take into account the<br />
competences of the prospective job or occupation.<br />
