1. What are the SOLIDAR Silver Rose Awards?
The SOLIDAR Silver Rose Awards were launched in 2000 to raise awareness of
organisations and individuals who have significantly contributed to improving social justice
and equality around the world.
Some winners are well-known personalities or organisations, but others are ordinary people
leading extraordinary lives, making a difference through their work for the most vulnerable
people in their societies, advocating their rights, campaigning for their needs, and providing
essential services. As SOLIDAR’s member organisations and partners work on numerous
projects with local partners both in Europe and around the world, outstanding examples of
worthy recipients are not difficult to identify.
The Awards are presented each year at a prestigious awards ceremony held at the European
Parliament in Brussels. This year’s edition will take place in late spring 2013.
SOLIDAR is a European network of 59 NGOs active in over 90 countries working to advance social justice in Europe and
worldwide. SOLIDAR voices the concerns of its member organisations to the EU and international institutions across the policy
sectors social affairs, international cooperation and lifelong learning. For more info www.solidar.org
