ThyssenKrupp Stainless USA
ThyssenKrupp Stainless USA, LLC, was created from the project company set up jointly with sister
segment ThyssenKrupp Steel to build a plant in the USA. From this evolved an independent company
which began operation in 2007. ThyssenKrupp Stainless USA is an independent company within the
Stainless group.
ThyssenKrupp Stainless USA is currently building a new integrated mill for stainless steel
flat products in Calvert in the US state of Alabama. The project in the USA is a key element in the
growth strategy of ThyssenKrupp Stainless. The direct entry of the Stainless group into the USA will
significantly expand our business in the NAFTA market. The capital investment for the Stainless part
of the greenfield project is around 840 million euros.
After the new plant starts production, expected in 2010, ThyssenKrupp Stainless USA will supply
its direct customers in North America in association with ThyssenKrupp Mexinox, which will later also
begin receiving hot-rolled coil from the new plant in the USA. Product marketing will also be handled
by the existing sales company ThyssenKrupp Stainless North America in Bannockburn (Illinois).
ThyssenKrupp Stainless USA is expected to make a major contribution to the success of the Stainless
group at operating level in the future.
