were welcomed back to<br />
Terrace Heights for<br />
Homecoming 2000, with special<br />
invitations to those from anniversary<br />
class years ending in 5 and 0. The<br />
class <strong>of</strong> 1950 celebrated its 50th<br />
anniversary, and <strong>the</strong> class <strong>of</strong> 1975<br />
celebrated its 25th.<br />
Kicking <strong>of</strong>f <strong>the</strong> festivities on<br />
Friday was a golf outing at <strong>the</strong><br />
Winona Country Club, a dinner for<br />
alumni <strong>of</strong> 50 years and over, and a<br />
reunion party. On Saturday, <strong>the</strong>re<br />
was a 5K fun run/walk on <strong>the</strong> SMU<br />
campus, a family picnic featuring<br />
entertainment for adults and<br />
children, and boat tours. Saturday<br />
evening featured an alumni Mass<br />
and presentation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Alumni<br />
Religious Service Award followed<br />
by <strong>the</strong> alumni awards cocktail<br />
and hors d’oeuvres reception.<br />
A dinner, dance, and piano<br />
sing-along rounded out Saturday<br />
night’s festivities.<br />

John F. McDonough ’75<br />

ohn F. McDonough ’75<br />
was <strong>the</strong> recipient <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
2000 Alumni Appreciation<br />
Award. A Chicago native,<br />
McDonough received his bachelor’s<br />
degree in communications from<br />
<strong>Saint</strong> Mary’s in 1975.<br />
After helping to start <strong>the</strong> Chicago<br />
Fire soccer team, he joined <strong>the</strong><br />
Chicago Cubs in<br />
1983 as <strong>the</strong> director<br />
<strong>of</strong> sales and<br />
promotions. In<br />
1987, he became<br />
director <strong>of</strong> marketing<br />
and was<br />
promoted to vice<br />
president <strong>of</strong> marketing<br />
and broadcasting in 1991.<br />
McDonough has received many<br />
awards for marketing excellence. He<br />
consistently remembers his alma<br />
mater and fellow alums with special<br />
game packages, opportunities to sing<br />
<strong>the</strong> national an<strong>the</strong>m or throw out<br />
<strong>the</strong> first pitch at a Cubs’ game at<br />
Wrigley Field.<br />

FSC, Ph.D. ’45 was<br />
honored at Saturday’s<br />
Alumni Mass with <strong>the</strong> <strong>Saint</strong><br />
Mary’s <strong>University</strong> Religious Service<br />
Award. A native <strong>of</strong> St. Louis, Mo.,<br />
and a Christian Bro<strong>the</strong>r for almost<br />
60 years, Bro<strong>the</strong>r Frank has played a<br />
vital role in <strong>the</strong> history <strong>of</strong> <strong>Saint</strong><br />
Mary’s and <strong>the</strong> lives <strong>of</strong> its students<br />
and alumni.<br />
After graduating from <strong>Saint</strong><br />
Mary’s, Bro<strong>the</strong>r Frank earned his<br />
master’s in American history from<br />
DePaul <strong>University</strong> and his doctorate<br />
in political science from St. Louis<br />
<strong>University</strong>. In<br />
1953, he joined<br />
<strong>the</strong> faculty at<br />
<strong>Saint</strong> Mary’s,<br />
where he served<br />
for 20 years,<br />
including six<br />
years as dean <strong>of</strong><br />
men and as head<br />
resident <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> dormitories. Bro<strong>the</strong>r<br />
Frank thoroughly enjoys working<br />
with young people and is devoted to<br />
<strong>the</strong> Lasallian mission <strong>of</strong> education<br />
and guiding students and alumni in<br />
life choices. In recent years, he works<br />
with young people interested in pursuing<br />
religious vocations.<br />
