Luncheon series features reflections and perspectives<br />

from retired Christian Bro<strong>the</strong>rs<br />

During late March and April, faculty<br />

and staff were invited to<br />

explore <strong>Saint</strong> Mary’s Christian<br />

Bro<strong>the</strong>r heritage and focus on its<br />

Lasallian future at weekly luncheons<br />

sponsored by <strong>the</strong> Center for Teaching<br />

and Learning and Mission<br />

Enhancement.<br />

Four retired Christian Bro<strong>the</strong>r<br />

faculty members spoke about <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

lives as Bro<strong>the</strong>rs, <strong>the</strong> way <strong>Saint</strong><br />

Mary’s was, and <strong>the</strong>ir reflections<br />

upon what <strong>the</strong> university has<br />

become.<br />

The luncheons also provided a<br />

chance to reminisce about recent colleagues,<br />

especially Dr. Arthur Flodstrom<br />

’64, who died on April 8 <strong>of</strong> last<br />

year. Ano<strong>the</strong>r topic was <strong>the</strong> concept<br />

<strong>of</strong> shared mission, which expresses<br />

<strong>the</strong> relationship between and among<br />

<strong>the</strong> Bro<strong>the</strong>rs and lay colleagues.<br />

George Pahl, Ph.D. ’36, biology<br />

teacher and past president <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> university;<br />

Bro<strong>the</strong>r Laurence Wal<strong>the</strong>r<br />

’44, music teacher; Bro<strong>the</strong>r Richard<br />

Gerlach ’35, history teacher; and<br />

Bro<strong>the</strong>r Raphael Erler, Ph.D. ’38,<br />

Alums return to<br />

share career advice<br />

with students<br />

On April 6, students were invited to<br />

meet <strong>Saint</strong> Mary’s alumni, listen to<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir career stories, and mingle during a<br />

reception in <strong>the</strong> Toner Student Center on<br />

<strong>the</strong> Winona Campus.<br />
