Clinical training experience is to be completed at an accredited and approved hospital program <strong>of</strong><br />

cytotechnology over a twelve-month period. The school <strong>of</strong> cytotechnology currently affiliated with<br />

<strong>Saint</strong> Mary’s <strong>University</strong> is the Mayo School <strong>of</strong> Health Sciences, Rochester, MN.<br />

Biology Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Technology Major (59 credits):<br />

The clinical laboratory science/medical technology program is a four-year program designed to provide<br />

the student with a bachelor <strong>of</strong> arts degree with a major in biology clinical laboratory science/medical<br />

technology. <strong>Saint</strong> Mary’s <strong>University</strong> is affiliated with the clinical laboratory science program at the Mayo<br />

School <strong>of</strong> Health Sciences and the medical technology program at the Veterans Administration Hospital<br />

in Hines, IL.<br />

Prior to a clinical year <strong>of</strong> internship, the student must complete three years <strong>of</strong> course work (90 credits)<br />

at <strong>Saint</strong> Mary’s <strong>University</strong>, including the general education requirements. Of these 90 credits, 30<br />

credits must be upper-division credits. Acceptance to the clinical program at Mayo or the Veterans<br />

Administration Hospital is contingent upon the student’s academic achievement. Upon successful<br />

completion <strong>of</strong> the clinical program the student receives a certificate in clinical laboratory science or<br />

medical technology and is eligible to take the certification exam <strong>of</strong> the American Society for Clinical<br />

Pathology, the National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel, or any approved certifying<br />

agency.<br />
