Physical Education/Lifestyle
Shawn McMahon, Director
The primary goal of physical education courses at Saint Mary’s is to improve students’ quality of life
through the promotion and development of physical fitness and wellness. Courses emphasize skill
development, rules of play, and the health benefits associated with regular activity. A variety of offerings
in physical education allow students to pursue fitness and health in numerous ways while integrating
wellness throughout their lives.
Upon successful completion of a physical education course, students will:
• Recognize the relationship of physical activity to quality of life;
• Develop increased knowledge and familiarity with the activity;
• Understand central concepts, rules, and etiquette associated with the activity; and
• Be able to include the activity as part of a regular wellness program into the future.
As a requirement for graduation, students must complete two physical education classes. Courses are
offered for no credit and are graded pass/no credit.
